I currently own an IPad 3 and Iphone 4. Never watch anything on them due to small screen; I'm a little old school that way and I am hearing impaired and have to use captions for anything but sports.

Have Comcast Blast internet service at 35k megabits wireless on speedtest.net. Fast!

I have Directv with a Sharp LC640u TV 60" with Directv and Panny Blu ray going thru HDMI ARC with my Sony 520 receiver (does not have airplay).

My sports team is going to be on ESPN3 and Watch ESPN a lot this year and I would like to stream that and HBO2go, Starz and a few other channels.

Would like the best box the stream the above and have captions as much as possible (that is probably provider dependent I'm sure). i have read about Apple TV, Roku and Boxee and a few others on CNET and it seems that Apple is the way to go (not corcerned about cost).

What would you guys recommend?

At the moment it appears that Apple TV is the only one with ESPN. So, your option would be the Apple TV. Or you can use HTPC. It appears that all of WatchESPN have CC.

Don't think XBMC is a big deal for me. With my Ipad 3 and Iphone 4 I think the Apple TV is the way to go for me. They now have HBO2GO and Watch ESPN which would be my two primary streaming apps. I try to watch only legal content so the Airplay and itunes content (photos, videos) will be a plus for me. I am a little confused about the mirroring aspect though. I am buying this primarily for sports-hope it will stream firstrow.com (sports streaming from obscure sources).I have 60 days to return it at Best buy because i am a premier member.

I may be missing something but googled it and went to web site. What would it get me that I don't have (I have every channel available on Directv)? Don't care about UTube, Amazon, etc due to no or inadequate captions.

XBMC is mainly a jukeboxe that can get a movie / TV wall and metadata for your ripped content. It is a pretty nice UI / jukebox. There are a few plugins you can download such as Netflix to make it work with online streaming apps.
