I'm looking for a WAP for the main floor of my house, the modem + router is in the basement. This just needs to cover a main floor of about 1800 sqft. I have a PoE switch and I'm trying to find a PoE WAP but I'm a bit overwhelmed at the wide variation in price and not sure what I should be looking for. I'd like something fairly discrete that could even sit on a wall somewhere, but I'm open to anything. Budget of about $200.

I would suggest checking out ubiquitis like the last post said. they are about $99 for 802.11/b/g/n. Get a POE adapter from Ubiquiti to take normal POE power to Ubiquitis dumb POE standard.

Thanks for the advice! The more basic and inexpensive models do use a different PoE standard, so I would have to use an adapter. I was hoping to use my existing 803.3af switch but the Ubiquiti WAPs are still the way to go even if I already have a PoE switch?

Yes. They make a little Adapter you put between the switch and he Ubiquiti AP. It will change the 802.3af to Ubiquitis standard inline and power it. You don't need extra power supplys / cables etc. I just put 20 of them at my office.

get that for each AP. they are way smaller then you would think. smaller then the head of a standard screw driver.
