Previously, the easiest way to stream Spotify to your TV was via a current gen Roku box like Roku 3 with the Roku Spotify app or via a WDTV box. Apple TV owners could also stream spotify via AirPlay.
But those solutions are all more expensive than the $35 chromecast stick.
Now, with the new Chromecast stick's ability to stream any Chrome browser tab to the screen, should finally allow spotify to be played from a standard web browser using the spotify web based app available at play.spotify.com
Spotify users rejoice! Now, if you can just get your hands on a chromecast stick!
I personally like the apps better than the web interface, which is why I will stick to streaming MOG from my iPad to my Apple TV 3 through AirPlay.
Ultimately, Chromecast is not likely to replace my Apple TVs, but I bought one because I thought it might be useful to stream Netflix to the hotel TV when traveling.
After testing the CC using the "Cast a tab" feature while viewing the Spotify web app at play.spotify.com, it appears that the sound quality suffers a bit vs what's coming out my PC's headphone jack. Not bad, but noticeable.
Anyone know the max audio bitrate chromecast supports when casting a tab? And does it change depending on my settings for video (480p, 720p, 720p Optimal, or Audio Only)?
I could tell no discernible difference with any of those settings.
