I've ripped all of my DVDs to provide quick viewing via a WDTV.
My Pioneer Kuro has a superior upscaler so I set the WDTV to
output 480p over HDMI and let the Kuro upscale the content.

The WDTV will not allow 480i (source direct) output over the HDMI
so I notice that the original DVDs still look a bit sharper.

So I am looking to see if there are any media players that allow
480i (source direct) over HDMI. I am needing a player that also
allows direct play from a USB connected Hard Disk as all of my
DVDs are ripped to external hard drives.

Thanks..

I do not believe there is any media player out there with source direct. However, pretty much any media player now a day can play ripped movies from external drive.

Media Server: UnRaid Server: 15TB of storage and growing :).

The only player to ever offer source direct was the sagetv HD theater, im sure you can pick up one used somewhere, but know they are EOL and out of support range.

It appears that the Oppo BDP-103 will allow me the play movies "source direct" from a USB connected hard drive. But the UI for browsing hard disk based movies is list based and tedious. No tumbnail movie posters like with the WDTV. It would be nice if Oppo implemented a nice movie poster style presentation for movie libraries on hard drive.

I'll take a look at the SageTV to see what it's UI is tumbnail based like the WDTV or list based like the Oppo. I would seem like "source direct" would be a desirable feature.

I'm wanting to rip my DVDs too but lack of source direct with a nice GUI on anything would make trudging through 1200 plus titles, well, sucky.
