I'm building my first home media system (living room in an apartment) and am trying to decide on a set-top box. I would like to run XBMC for my local content (video and music) that I've got on a Synology NAS. My wife wants to stream Hulu, which we currently stream through my PS3. (But I want to move that into another room with the Aquos and just keep our new projector in the living room.)

XS35-GSV3L

From my what I've read so far, the Shuttle looks good. Also thought about the Ouya. i just noticed the Shuttle has "AUDIO: IDT92HD81, 2.1 channel High Definition Audio". Really, No 5.1 audio possible?

Are there any other recommendation for an STB to do this? (A smooth running XBMC is my priority, btw.) wink.gif

thanks!

You need to read the specs. more closely. It supports 7.1 HD audio via HDMI (AC-3, AAC, True-HD, DTS-MA).

The bitterness of poor quality lasts long after the sweetness of the low price is forgotten . . . life is too short to drink bad wine

FWIW, another option is the Intel NUC.

For a very small difference in price you can get a full Core i3 instead of an Atom CPU. And just like the Shuttle you need to provide your own HD (mSATA SSD), memory, keyboard/mouse/remote, and OS. There's a big AVS thread here.

Oh, thanks. I'm so new to all this I didn't know HDMI implies 7.1 audio.
cheers
