I am a MBA student at the Willamette University Atkinson Management School in Oregon doing some market research for a potential product launch.

In short, if there was a product/service that would protect your home Internet security as well as your home wireless security that is remotely managed, would this be something that you would be interested in?

We are looking at a price point of $20/month. Features might include: live support (web, phone, chat, etc.), assistance in making changes to your network based on your needs - content filtering, time of day restrictions, parental controls, gateway AV scanning, wireless security, remote updates, etc.

We are not targeting folks who already know to make these kind of changes, but folks who wish they could if they only knew how, or people that want to get more out of the equipment they have already purchased.

Thoughts?

I'm not really sure if this is against the AVSForum rules for posting something like this. I don't understand why is this being done when there are a lot of companies doing this already.

I think people are getting $7.95'd and $9.95'd to death and your $20 price point is way out of the ball park. At $3.95/m there might be a market with folks that are too busy to do it themselves, but I'd say you will be hard pressed to generate much business when with 20 minutes of reading people can do it themselves. But, I may be wrong....

Thanks for the reply.

Currently this is not offered in the consumer space. Yes, there are a lots of software packages that install on individual computer and you have to do this to every computer on the network. This would be a UTM appliance that sits behind the router/cable/dsl modem. These type of devices are offered to the business space at UTM appliances, however, the annual subscription fees can often be in the thousands of dollars and often they have a number of user restrictions. I hope I am making sense, for example some for the commercial appliances would be a Cisco ASA, a Juniper SRX, a WatchGuard firebox, etc.

Thanks for the feedback, an annual plan might also work. But this is more hands on, having to staff a phone center, etc. The device would be continually updated with new AV scanning files, malware protection, content filters, etc.

Again, this is a single device at the gateway (router/cable/dsl modem), no need for additional software on each computer.
