I recently got a Sony S5100 BRD player to use in my living room with my new Vizio M501 3D television. I have the BRD connected to my D-Link router (router and modem sitting right behind TV) with a short Cat 5e ethernet cable.
My PC (sitting just left of my TV) is also connected to the same router with a 15-foot Cat 6 cable. Using Speedtest.net I usually get download speeds in the 25-30+ Mbps range, and uploads 5+ Mbps. It's darn near as fast as my office's business class internet service.
I don't see anything in the Sony BRD menus that will tell me what speed it's connected to my network. My TV will report the speed it's connected (also with Cat 5e), and typically it's only in the 7-11 Mbps range.
So why will the BRD not connect fast enough to stream 3D from Netflix? Is there anything I can do to get better connection speeds? My first thought is switching to a Cat 6 cable but theoretically that shouldn't make a difference.
*edit* I have streamed several 1080 3D clips from the BRD player's YouTube app with no problems whatsoever. So that makes me wonder even more why Netflix says there's not enough bandwidth.
