I've always had great success using this FireFox add-on to download videos across the web.

http://www.downloadhelper.net/site.php?site=71

And VLC player supported it perfectly.

But now I find that downloading practically any file at Youtube.com takes multiple attempts or is somehow made impossible altogether. I checked the FAQs at the above site and checked the manual in this app. They only imply that if the latest version of the app doesn't fix the problem-and/or override the blocking that Youtube
may have begun imposing last March 25th-then you can't download the file.

Does anyone have a fix for this problem using this downloader app, or can someone recommend another app that downloads youtube file with no problems?

Other Youtube downloaders reported that Youtube made a change in late December that required software revisions. Try http://www.winxdvd.com/giveaway/gotd.htm

I have been using Internet Download Manager for years. I can download You Tube files without problem.

If they start using adaptive streaming then many of the download plugins won't work.

Yes, for their commercial offering like YouTube Movies. I'm talking about the everyday videos folks upload. I haven't seen that on those but they may use it when you play a YouTube video over Chromecast.
