I've been going through some of the threads on each device and I'm having some trouble deicing. I'm looking for a device to play my media files (mp4, avi, etc) on my TV. I honestly don't care much for the apps, I use Netflix but I also have a PS4 which has a fantastic NetFlix app. I'm just looking for the best device in the price category for around ~$80. My one gripe about the Micca is the UI looks terribly outdated but I could live with that. But, with the WD PLAY being only a few bucks more. It's a toss-up. I saw the Dune, but I just can't swing the price. I have a 15mbps internet with my modem and router sitting right next to my TV. So, without a problem, I can have a ethernet cable directly plugged into this device or go through wi-fi.  Thank you for any input you guys may have.

Prices on Amazon.

WD PLAY : $ 46

WD Live:     $ 87

Micca   :      $40

The PLAY is a a stripped-down version of the Live: no mpeg2, no DTS, no SMB.

I;m in the same boat, why not Micca?

The Live Plus is the old model. The Live Streaming is the current model that also supports Netflix.

Ok I see..

The majority of what I want to do is connect a flash drive or external hard drive with all my media movies etc and watch on a tv anywhere.

Just a quick question re the Live:

I had one 18 months ago or so and I sold because it didn't do DTS HD at the time AND something else as I recall, but I cannot remember what it is.

It downmixes everything, right? Thought that might be it.

Then outside of lacking a nice jukebox this thing is a no brainer for $60-$90.

James

Actual phone call (see pic to left):

Tech (responding to laughter): "I'm sorry sir, did I miss something?"

Me: "Yeah, a case of Diet Mountain Dew walking across my living room."
