How to restart/reboot an Amazon Fire TV:

Simultaneously hold down the select and Play/Pause buttons for five-seven seconds.
Takes ~30 seconds to come back up.

My Fire TV updated yesterday. Don't know what's new as it looks the same to me.

Earthlink Standard powered by Time Warner Cable Brooklyn.
ASUS RT-N66W Router 374.43 (Merlin Build) using OpenDNS.
Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV 3, Sony PS3 Slim, Sony PS4 all Wired.

Interesting, I'll have to check mine tonight. Hopefully they fixed my issue.

The amazon video app got bumped up in revision number with the new software update (unless it was just pushed to the device earlier). Perhaps it addresses some of the suttering issues folks were having.

I just noticed it the other day with I think Episode 8 of Orphan Black. All the other 9 episodes were fine ... just that one episode. Very strange.

Have they added the Amazon Cloud Music app yet? It's been a while since I looked at my FireTV.

XBMC 13 (Gotham) final is here... working well for me. Make sure to do a clean install however.

I heard there was a FireTV update, but when I checked last night(May 3rd) it said nothing was available. I guess I'll check again tonight.

I'm still hoping they add the Amazon Cloud Music Player soon. I still find it amazing that it was not available when the FireTV launched.

Mine updated automatically while I was on the ATV3 using Netflix the only annoyance of the Kinivo switch that it changes the input automatically with no way to turn off that feature.

I just checked my FireTV again tonight. I looked at the Zatz site and the version he listed as new was installed on my FireTV back on April 15th. I bought my FireTV from BestBuy on April 5th. I wonder now why I've had this update for two and a half weeks while other people are just receiving it?

I'm not getting any notices of updates, so it must be happening automatically. Could be a good or bad thing as Amazon can push whatever they want and enable/disable any features. Hopefully they keep install of unofficial apps open.

BTW, here's another guide for installing XBMC step-by-step with pics. Can't vouch for it, but appears correct.

I'm stuck on 51.1.0.1 and it doesn't find any new updates. I wonder if this has anything to do with my deinterlacing problems in XBMC?

Agreed. How do they make this product available without a way to access your own music library?!

Why would amazon attempt to resolve a problem for an app that isn't even supported

I was not suggesting that. Some don't seem to have deinterlacing problems with MPEG-2 content so I was just speculating that maybe something was different in the firmware that unintentionally happened to fix it.

This is pretty neat... you can watch live and DVR'd OTA TV if you have Simple.tv. The Google Play app works on Fire TV. You need to sideload it and use a keyboard/mouse. The FTV remote doesn't allow proper navigation. But, on STV forums, the company posted that they'll soon have a native FTV app.

Not sure if anyone cares, but H.264 BD rips like 'The Dark Knight Rises', 'Django Unchained', 'Bedtime Stories' and maybe some others that had green pixellation/strobing issues in XBMC as MKV play perfectly as M2TS. Not sure why container should matter, so I requested devs to look into it at XBMC forums.

Appears the OUYA and FTV behave similarly on this issue, so maybe an Android thing.

Don't want to start a new thread, so asking here: I need a smartbox in kids room. Streaming Netflix, but also playing DVD rips from network share (I have a hard drive plugged straight to the router). Don't want to mess with HTPC - too expensive, no native Netflix support, though possible to add. I don't want to depend on my PC to play videos from network share as well.
So far, only two options I see are: WDTV live streaming and FireTV with XMBC installed. Could anyone provide a feedback?
There are also couple of XBMC addons that would be nice to have. They are not in official addons list, I was installing them (on the HTPC) from zip file. Can it be done in FireTV ?

Thanks!

Both WD TV and FTV are good options. If you need HD audio, then go WD TV. If not, FTV with XBMC is the far more versatile all-in-one family box. Netflix and Amazon streaming, plus games, plus XBMC. My kids (9 and 6) are fairly comfortable using FTV for all this. They only need help when streaming from unofficial video add-ons as it involves more browsing/searching (and putting up with quirks) vs. just click-to-play stuff on your network via XBMC's beautiful movie/TV wall.

I doubt he needs HD audio in a kids room. The FTV with xbmc is the better choice for him in my opinion.

BTW, what's the deal with the HD audio not supported on the FTV. Is it the same for all Android systems?

Apparently there is hardware that can do hd audio (some claim the new Tronsmart Vega S89 and upcoming Minix X8 can), but the coding side of XBMC hasn't been able to do it (or do it quite right anyway) yet.

So I decided to keep my FTV since I will eventually need a streamer in another room, but the more I use it the more I am not impressed. Still do not dig the UI quirks. Also Plex seems to be an issue. I have almost 400 movies ripped to my NAS and they have AAC primary audio with AC3 5.1 as the secondary. I have 2 issues, first the picture never scales to fill the screen, it is bordered on all sides for some movies and for others the video is at the top with borders on the sides and bottom. The second is the audio is only stereo no matter which audio stream I select. My Roku 3 has no issues and behaves perfectly with the video and audio.

I'm not much of a PLEX fan, sorry. I use it occasionally, only because I can access my content via Roku. Try XBMC smile.gif.

I wonder if setting the Dolby Digital Plus to ON over HDMI or optical on the FTV settings would fix that problem.

I don't care about navi-x or other stuff like it but it is a known fact that it hasn't been working on xbmc for a while now.
