If you want Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio, Plex won't give it to you on the Fire. You'll need Kodi or XMBC with Plexbmc to do that. If you are using a soundbar and can live with 2.0 audio, Plex is your option.

I need some help here, I just got my amazon firetv last night and downloaded the Plex app. I then connected my external HDD which is where my movies are and downloaded the plex app on my MacBook. on my MacBook, I added the folder with the movies in it and it showed up, however I cant see that folder on the amazon fire tv plex app.

What am I doing wrong?

You need PLEX Server on your Mac, tell PLEX where your media is, the App on the FIRE will see it and should share. The only thing question for me, is the USB external drive share...not 100% certain that will work. All my shares are networked.

I don't know what you mean by "is the USB external HDD share" so are you saying if the external HDD is attached via usb to the MacBook plex server wont see it on the firetv app?

That's what I am unsure on...I have no experience with using external HDD's as a media source with PLEX. My shares are networked via my server. (not USB external).

Try it...download PLEX Server, and point to your shares, and see if your FIRETV can access the files.
