I deleted Kodi sideloaded app. I still could not get it to show up on the home screen. Also the app was butt ugly to me, just running it the LED light on the Fire TV kept flashing and I was seeing my disk space going down in real time. Thanks for the help anyway but I am not going to bother with it.

"Help us improve the AFTV" survey

Has anyone completed this? I tried but it wouldn't let me. I'm wondering if it contained any clues about what a possible model upgrade might include?

I've been hoping for a new model sometime soon - it's discouraging that after a year we're only at the survey stage, especially compared to the rapid pace of improvements to their tablets...

Thanks,

CC

My bad - I'll stop relying on the title to appear. It's not a link - I got an e-mail invite to participate...

Fire TV & Stick No 7.1 Pass Through

My Fire TV does not pass 7.1 PCM to a Denon AVR X5200W.
A Fire TV Stick does not pass 7.1 to the AVR.
A Kindle Fire 8.9 HD does pass 7.1 PCM to the AVR.

Same source material used with all, episodes of Bosch, Noah (movie) for example. The Fire TV / Stick / Kindle HD are all connected to the AVR via HDMI and the AVR is connected to a PDP via HDMI. The AVR is setup for 9.2.

Amazon CS passed the issue to technical support with a promised 24 to 48 hour turnaround. While I wait I thought I would ask if anyone else had encountered a problem with 7.1 PCM pass through on the Fire TV?

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd.

FireTV as a Pandora streamer

As it happens, one of my 2 channel systems has evolved to where it is co-located with (gasp) a flat panel TV. My FireTV box had been sitting around doing nothing, and I decided to move it to the room with the flat panel TV, hook it up to the TV via HDMI, and to my DAC via the TOSLINK Cconnection, and voila - now I can use the FireTV as a Pandora streamer!

There still is no "headless tablet "FireTV solution that I can find, but at least now I can turn on the TV and the FireTV, choose the music app I want, and then turn the TV off and just enjoy hours of music while multitasking. It's particularly useful during the NPR begathons- lol!

Certainly not a scientific breakthrough, but the FireTV TOSLINK Output sounds pretty sweet through my Marantz SA-8004 DAC.

Is it better than my Sonos Connect- no because the Sonos App is excellent and doesn't need a TV. screen, but it's $250 cheaper ( or in my case, zero incremental cost since it was doing zilch anyway.

Hope this helps someone else.

2 Channel audio only:
ZUs Soul Superflys; Marantz PM15S2. Marantz SA8005; Rega RP3; Sonos Connect
ps - try before you buy, and always make sure you have a return option!
