Hi all,

I'm looking to create a new setup for my dad as his current PC has reached the end of its days. Most content he will view would be stored video files .avi mkv etc. I was thinking of using a WiFi HDD as the storage, nexus 7 as the controller and a Chromecast or similar device to stream to. Problem is, I don't know how feasible this is without having a PC involved. In addition to this the app I was planning to use (Bubbleupnp) seems to be a bit flaky when I stream from my laptop to my Chromecast.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Synology or similar NAS running Plex server and a new Roku with Plex client.
Works great and you get all the the other Roku channels.
I just set up a Roku at my parents house.
Using Plex they can watch all my content stored on my NAS at home.
We watched Saving Mr. Banks in 720p with digital surround and not a single hiccup.

Info on what NAS you would need based on what you want to do.
