Apple TV or a Roku, once they are set up they are both pretty easy to run. If your parents would use Amazon Prime then the Roku gets the nod. What apps might they be interested in.

"Bring out yer dead!".."Wait I'm not dead yet!"..(Sound Austrian here) "WRONG !!" (You know what happens next..)

Dear tenthplanet,

Thank you for your suggestion.

But, what is the apps that available in the Apple TV or Roku?

Is the content FOC?

Or we would need to pay for the subscription fee?

I little more info would help. What do they want to stream? Internet content? Stuff like Netflix? How old are they?

Just a guess but I think Roku would be the best fit unless they are really into apple products. Roku has hundreds of channels available, some very nitch type programming. The bulk of it free or low cost. You will pay for Netflix, and Amazon the big players but there are any number of other content providers that are free.

Dear Matt L,

hmm.. I think they would prefer those Cantonese, Chinese program.

Do Roku have Cantonese and Chinese program?

Of course, they do not need those Netflix.

What they want is only press on the remote control and can watch the program directly.

They are almost 70 years old already.

You might want to check out "TVPad". This is an android TV Box for playing Chinese TV programs and movies. I know someone who gave their elderly parents one and they say that the parents find it easy to use.

Dear Randy,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I will go through on this.

How about Xiao Mi from China?

I heard my friend said their feature is awesome too.

Have you come across this as well?

I was recently in Taiwan and saw that the electronics stores were selling a number of different Android TV Boxes. I really don't know the difference between them and which one is best. I've seen the brand name Xiao Mi but don't have any further info.

Baidu, which is the Google of China, has a number of Android TV boxes and sticks. This could also be worth investigating.

I have a Roku with the 5iktv channel. I pay about $6 a month and it gives me something like 50 Taiwanese TV channels. It has worked very well.

Hi,

Seen 1OTT before in my friend's house. Quite interesting, lots of Chinese and Asian contents including VOD and live channels. Try to search...saw their website :http://www.cloudmedia.com/1ott/

Seems not to really expensive $99/pc ...no Monthly fees and free shipping. Perhaps, you could look into this.

Regards
Samantha

Finally I have received my 1OTT box.

Contents of the box

Connecting my 1OTT box to my TV.

Simple set up. Just connect the HDMI cable, and USB power cable.
For the LAN cable, you can connect it if the router is near to you.
Else, you may also use wifi connection to get your box awake.

So many apps that I found in the 1OTT.
Will explore it tonight. Will share with you guys again on this.

Stay tune..^^

Hi Samantha,

Tried this 1OTT for few days.
The contents are really a lot.
Not even have enough time to go through all the drama.
Just that, I will always forgot when am I when using the box.
You know what, so many app, drama, series, episodes....
I am always forgot what is the last episode that I have watch until.
Overall, the experience of using this is quite good.

This is the UI of the 1OTT.
1OTT do have the categories for their app.
These are the categories that I am able to capture on it.

1. All

2.Most Popular

3.Games

4.Music / Radio

5.News and sports

6.Social and Photos

7.Web videos

8.TV Movies

Will need more time to explore on the 1OTT again.
so far, I think this is great.
As I do not need to ON my PC just to watch drama. I just can directly watch is through by TV.
And the box just change my TV to become a "Smart TV".

I like it so much now..
