Sony FMP-X10 owners thread

These are going to be at our doors in the next few days, so I figured we needed a thread.

These are a few questions some users had, hopefully they can be answered :)

1. When the audio from the X10 is connected to the AVR, does the audio play flawlessly, in its intended format (Dolby Digital or lossless audio)?

2. When playing one of the several programs from Netflix that is supposed to be in 4K format, does it indeed play in that format? While it is playing, is there any on-screen verification that the stream is 4K? Is there any indication of the network bandwidth being used?

3. Is the player indeed capable of playing video content from a USB stick? 4K content?

4. What free content is the owner of a X10 entitled to?

5. How long does it take a video to download from the SEN 4K site (measure elapsed time, and view length of the film to come up with a download time vs. film length statistic).

TweakerInWA 07-15-2014 07:13 PM

I have a couple...

1. Unlike the X-1, will I be able to run the X-10 through my HDCP 2.2 compliant AVR instead of having to run it directly to the TV for absolutely no reason?

2. Will I be able to connect the X-10 directly to my network "switch", or will I have to go pulling patch cables so the XBR-9XXA/B and X-10 are connected to the same router?

bruceames 07-15-2014 07:34 PM

Can I use any number of external hard drives with this? In other words, if one of my drives fills up, can I just start filling up another one and swap drives back and forth (depending on which downloaded movies I wanted to watch)? On the same note, will a portable hard drive work, or just it need a hard drive with a power supply?

What sound quality will I get for a $30 movie purchase? Lesser than Blu-ray quality?

Rodymx 07-16-2014 06:41 AM

The 4K video only supports dolby digital audio?

Has anyone gotten a shipping notification for their media players? Sony's site says it's in stock and ships with 1-2 business days...

Just got an email from the Sony Store that mine has shipped!

I originally ordered from Crutchfield but went with Sony Store instead as Crutchfield's estimated ship date was 7/25.

I'll have mine tomorrow by 8:00, I also had a FEDEX notice on my door as I just got home from work for a failed delivery attempt of my replacement X-1..... Frickin unbelievable, took them three weeks to ship what is supposed to be a "NEW" player? Any way to tell if it's a recycled unit???

My order still pending from Amazon with no ship date. :( I just went to Sony's website to see if I could just order from then but the price has gone up to $699 so I'll have to hope that Amazon will be shipping soon.

If you tell them you have a pending order with Amazon, and you're a Prime member, I bet they'd sell it to you for the $499 and waive the $25 expedited shipping fee. That's what I did yesterday and will have the X-10 tomorrow. .

Looks like Sony has increased their download speed caps. Currently getting around 30 Mbps (which is where it must be capped, fluctuates between 28 and the occasional 31 Mbps), as compared to the previous 11-12... Baby steps, but steps none the less

You are the only person I know to ever see over 15 on the x1

A question for current owners. Can you start playback of a movie/show while it is still downloading?

ggw2000 07-17-2014 06:06 AM

Sony Rentals

Should have my X10 in a week or so- no big hurry as I just got my x900a yesterday :). But I do have a question- I have no plans of buying movies from Sony ( I have a cabinet full of DVDs and BDs that sit there with most being watched once) and will probably rent if I find something of interest. Sony says that these are 24 hr rentals which is fine but I would like to know if this timeframe starts from the first time you start watching the movie or is it from the time that you pay for it? Also are they a real time stream or do you wait for the movie to D/L to the X10 first and then watch the movie? Any help with Sony's procedure in the area would be great!
Thanks, Gerry

Also, I just went to Video Unlimited and don't see any mention of 4K movies? I could only find reference to SD and HD?

The movies are 24hrs from the first time you hit play. Most of the movies have to be downloaded, a select few can be streamed. Those are usually located in the "featured" section. ..

Thank you for the explanation!! I thought that most all rentals were like $7 a piece but when I was on their website I saw that some of them were like $13-14 flipp'n dollars for HD versions!!! What the heck is the price range for 4K based on what I saw?
