I'm experiencing these frustrating dropouts using Tidal in the car, and occasionally I'll lose the signal for up to a minute. I really want to like Tidal but this could be a deal breaker. I don't remember having these kinds of issues with Pandora or Spotify.

I'll play with the iOS app a little today. I could see where that would be a little trickier for Tidal, but given the success of Pandora and Spotify it should be doable.

We subscribe to Pandora One and have no issues at all for what it is worth. I would be happy to hear any ideas of what I might try because right now I've had no success in bettering the situation.

No dropouts but I really wish they would add some of the audiophile labels such as Chesky and Stockfisch Records.

I'm not at home so I cannot give you the step by step but go into the Tidal plugin and turn on the proxy selection button

In my case, what I'm seeing in the console app (OS X 10.10.1) is big, irregular spikes in retransmitted packets. If it goes over 1000 it'll typically start breaking up, and then fail.

A wireless diagnostic program (I'll try to get the name when I'm home this afternoon) showed that my wireless signal is more degraded (55%) than I was expecting. The wireless router is on the bottom floor and the mac is (typically) on the floor above. I've ordered a new WAP that I'll put in a cabinet less than 10 feet away from where the mac usually sits. We'll see if that improves anything.

I've decided to end my trial of TIDAL and maybe try again at a later date. On another note I'm trying SPOTIFY Premium right now and really liking it.

I dropped Spotify when I picked up Tidal, but I totally understand that it's not performing for you (yet). I've had an amazingly positive experience with Tidal so far, but I've been mostly using in streaming on my media server (PC).

I'm guessing it's an issue with the iOS for the iPhone's. I'll try it again sometime in the future.

An update on the drop-out issue: A console window revealed airplay having to re-transmit a LOT. I live in a pretty crowded RF neighborhood, so it isn't completely surprising. The connection would drop off once the retransmit count exceeded 1000 on any given track. Netspot revealed my neighbor's wireless signal would sometimes be stronger than mine, and it was on the same channel. Because my router was supplied by Verizon, I had limited configuration options available to me.

My existing wireless router is on the ground floor, one floor below the Mac I use for streaming. I bought another router and put it in the entertainment center, with line-of-sight to the Mac. After a week, there have been no more issues with lost connections. Retransmits usually don't exceed 200. I do get the occasional drop-out, but it's not much more than the occasional "click." Last night something happened and the retransmit count jumped way beyond *5000* but Tidal never "lost lock."

I can't say how applicable my experience is for the wider audience, but it is a datapoint. Me, I think perhaps Tidal's compression algorithms might need work, or maybe it's a quirk of Airplay. But that's just my speculation.

I was using a Bluetooth connection with my AVR and experiencing the dropout issues, I never tried Airplay because I was also wanting to use the APP in my truck so I didn't see any point. My PC was no issue with TIDAL as why I'm thinking iOS issue between the two.

May I ask some basic lame-o questions? I've been streaming Pandora and Spotify for the PC and through an iPhone for some time, but I have never streamed music to the Hi-Fi system. In looking at the different systems out there I've decided to give Tidal a try, but I'm unclear how to get a high fidelity signal to my pre-amp. I have a strong Wi-Fi signal available.

My original thought was to use an iPad through the headphone jack to the analog inputs on my pre-amp. It seems to me if I do that the DA conversion will take place in the iPad, which I doubt is optimized for fidelity. I have an Oppo BDP-103, which has wireless capabilities and a decent DAC, but doesn't seem to offer anything more than Pandora and Rhapsody for streaming music. The Oppo has a USB port, and I guess I could connect a laptop to that USB port and get the DA conversion done through the Oppo that way, but I'd really like to use the iPad instead of the laptop.

Can anyone take pity on me and lay out the basics for someone who keeps up to date on equipment and physical media, but has buried his head in the sand when it comes to streaming?

An Apple TV will let you use airplay to stream it into your rig, that'll probably be your cheapest/simplest option. There are several gizmos on the market now that are full-time streamer/players designed for folks with separates. Some have tidal clients already (Sonos comes to mind, you can find a list on the Tidal website). Here's an article that lists a bunch of players: http://www.audiostream.com/category/...reamer-reviews

Thank you for the quick response. I took a quick look at the Apple TV device and that does look like a simple way for me to get the DA conversion done downstream of the iPad. I'll give it a try.

UPDATE: I got my new iPhone6 today and have had NO dropouts at all using Airplay or BT connections! One thing to note though; the Airplay would not work until the most current software update was installed. That being said I am very happy with the quality of TIDAL but do think the price is a little steep.

Could you tell me the best way to connect tidal in my car? I have bluetooth aux option or direct aux. I have a Burmester stereo.

Thanks! Love Tidal so far.

Bubble uPNP, my favorite DLNA controller for Andriod, added native Tidal support for its latest release. So far I'm very pleased. Streaming to my Pioneer SC-89 via Airplay has been disappointing and problematic. It was also far too "black box." I would get notices that the client had dropped its sound quality due to "bandwidth issues," even though the main display stayed set at "hifi."

Streaming this way has been very smooth so far. Even better, instead of a terse "streaming airplay" display, my receiver shows the complete information of the file it's playing. I *know* it's streaming 44.1/16. And it's gapless!

Bubble uPNP is also available for iOS. So, if you're having issues streaming via Airplay, give this one a shot. It worked for me.

Oh, and for those asking, "Why didn't you use the native Tidal Android client?" Well, my phone is 3.5 years old. The Tidal client wouldn't install on it.

I see, when you search a band, by example Pink Floyd, you see by "artist" if there any video is present.

Just signed up for tidal today. Currently streaming via blue tooth from iPad mini to my Opop HA-1 and McIntosh MHP1000 headphones. Quality is there for sure, and the app is very user friendly. I love how quick I've been introduced to new music.

One problem which will keep me from actually paying for Tidal (which I would happily do) after trial are the drop outs/pauses. My wireless internet connection is rock solid at home, but something is causing frequent pauses in playback.

Great product on paper, but for 20/month it needs to work without fault. Hopefully they find a fix, because once they do I'd be a customer.

If you're able, try the bubble uPNP client for iOS. That totally solved my dropout issues.

Thanks. Actually before I lay blame on tidal I'm double checking my networks. While download speed is 25mbps from my comp, my wireless is only at 3mbps currently for some reason. Once I get it fixed I'll see if that fixes the issue
