I find it odd they fail to mention TrueHD in the audio specs, even though on Facebook they state otherwise...

So I wonder if this have the potential picture quality wise to be better than the Zappiti 4k player? Would have been nice if it had the ability to use Xbmc as well as the NMJ. Who is pre ordering? WirelessHD

They removed reference to it on all models. I think the battle that stopped US sales was with Dolby so might just be from that.

At this point, I'm spoiled by Kodi/XBMC... it's a must-have; no more dealing with NMJ, Zappiti, M8R's jukebox, etc.

Yeah, I figured that was the issue, just don't like the idea that they have to omit stuff from the marketing.

Haven't decided yet. In general PCHs have always been problematic for me in terms of network playback. With the other models since they supported an internal HDD I could easily give away to a family member and set up with local storage. That won't be an option with VTEN (granted, could use USB drives but just one additional piece of hardware I would have to add for a family member when I have plenty of spare HDDs lying around)

Cheers,
Damian

Kodi is nice but the multiplayer aspect of it leaves a lot to be desired. I have settled on trying to stick with plex as the backend and a capable player on the frontend

lollllllll

Do I have a reputation to order EVERY new media player that looks great on paper ?

Seriously having now :

1)a 100 % working VidOn box
2)a 100 % working Western Digital Live Tv box
3)a 50 % working EWEAT 4K box( XBMC not working with network play and BDMV files + WMA, WMA PRO, DIVIX not playing with the player )
4)a 0 % working Zappiti 4k player that is not shipped yet ( need new firmware update for XBMC Network play and Realtek patch for WMA, WMA PRO, DIVIX )

I will wait until a new TRUE 4K machine ( support for 4k with bitrate playback of 120 mbps ) with all the functionalities of XBMC, plus BD MENU support !

I am finding information that this model has a HDMI 1.4 output. Isn't that a some kind of limitation?

Just was hoping you were ordering one that way we had a comparison of the quality between this and the Zappiti player.

Should be pretty close they are both running a mali 400 as the gpu, the rlt1195 is based on cortex A7 while the sigma is cortex A9. I wonder if sigma added back in VXP during the press release for these chipsets they had mentioned vxp

I am dying on seeing what you early adopters think of the Zapitti player. My Dune Base 3 is getting long in the tooth. Hopefully it doesn't fail before a true 4k winner emerges.

I honestly have very muted expectations. Then again, I won't ever know if the Zappiti folks cant get the player through customs ...

My skepticism with Zappiti player is that it's based on the same Realtek 1195 chip turnkey solution as Bluetimes/M-195/MeLe, etc. Would love to be proven wrong as far as Kodi and proper 3D + hd audio + 23.976 playback.

I am not as worried about it being Realtek per se as I am running into the usual "alpha/beta" issues that will undoubtedly come along with this and new firmware. I would have the same exact concerns with the new Sigma chip that will be in the VTEN (especially when factoring in experience with previous Syabas media player releases)

Damian

Sigma is just as turnkey as realtek now. So its going to depend on which chipset maker does the most fixes and at a good rate. Cloudmedia/syabas and zappiti are at the mercy of the chipset maker.

As I have said the last good players the dune prime and the 200 series of syabas was the last generation that offered full access to the sdk where they could fix bugs on there own. When then dune tv model and the syabas 300 series came out sigma stopped giving full sdk access and with this more bug that only sigma could fix. From information I have been told sigma does not even give access to things like subtitle handling to fix basic font items anymore without them changing it.

My expectations for the zappitit player is it will handle just like all the other 1195 based players but at a high premium. My expectation for the vten is it will be an alpha product like usual. So will depend how committed sigma is to making it right

Not a deal breaker, but I noticed there is no USB 3.0 support. I guess everything will be streamed instead of local content.

There is no internal drive slot. So stream it is unless you use USB drive but even that usb2 is plenty fast for media

I guess usb isn't fat enough for you? It's plenty fast to support and current and near future media (this includes UHDBR).

Does anyone know what the VXP brings to the table? If I remember correctly the A-400 has it and it was supposed to implement several post processing items but only a couple were enabled. Also looks like the first batch is ready to ship. Next batch ships Feb 13th.

Also seems like a reseller is doing some testing. Looks like typical work in progress player.

I think it will be prudent to wait until there is HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps) support.

If you want that then buy an actual computer, for the content upcoming in the next year or so there will most likely not be a need for it (no 4:4:4 content). The 4k@60 4:4:4 is mostly looked for by those using devices as PC monitors etc, this is a media device and should meet the needs of most of the upcoming content....

Yes it's 4:2:0 lists of talk about it in the UHBD thread in the "news" section. For what this player will be used for I think it will do ok.

Also looking like the death of 3d. They never did announce the 3d 4k spec. So any new 3d movies are stuck on 1080p.
