Yes those are the correct settings but to be clear the Shield hasn't announced one way or another if they will be supporting DV.

Yeah, not too worried about DV streaming at the moment, but would like to try them on disc one Sony puts out the update.

Does the Shield do Netflix and Amazon 24hz if you set it to 24hz? One thing I like about the Sony X800, it outputs streaming as 2160p/24.

I'm probably the last guy on the forums to notice this, but I don't watch GoTS, so I didn't notice it until tonight... But the HBO Now app on Shield now supports DD 5.1. this is fantastic news, for me at least.

I started subbing to the premiums like Starz and HBO thru Amazon prime, PQ is the best I have found too and I get DD on my other devices.

My Shield should be here tomorrow.

These are 4K settings for our 4K TV's. Help me understand why you setup your Shield/Sony combo at 1080p?

Because I want the tv doing the upscaling of non 4K. Not the shield. When I watch 4K content then that's when I switch the resolution over to 4K.

Yes, Netflix and Amazon support 4K at 59.940Hz, 60Hz, 50Hz, 23.975Hz and 1080p at 59.940Hz.

I don't have a 60HZ option for 1080P. It says 59. something.

I don't really care for the Prime app (at least not on Shield, which is basically the only thing I use). It's fine I guess. I do use it for Showtime, as it's $2 less per month than just doing the Showtime app directly thru the Play Store.

But when HBO costs the same regardless, I prefer the HBO Now interface over the Amazon app..

You can't tell me you see any difference if you just leave the shield at 4k. Having to remember to go into the menu all the time and change it is super annoying.

Placebo effect. Samsung is supposed to have great scaling too but guess what? There's no perceptible difference.

No placebo effect going on over here. I've compared both. The Sony does a better job.

Is the shield the best player for streaming 4K in *HDR*. I primarily only care about streaming Netflix, Amazon Prime Video in HDR which it looks like it will do. But it does not appear to do HDR for VUDU according to the company's web page. Its also $200 compared to the Google Chromecast Ultra which is only $70. Are there any benefits for the Shield that make it worth the extra $$ compare to the Ultra (assuming the Ultra can do HDR for Netflix and Amazon)? For instance can the Shield (or Ultra) do 4k24 for these services (instead of 4k60)? I have a Roku Ultra but want to replace it due to problems with it and the Roku service. Thanks!

It was said above it will do 24hz for Amazon and Netflix. I really only use those services, so I was thinking about just setting it to 2160/24 output and leaving it be.

I just bought the Shield on the weekend and tried to move the Plex server from my desktop computer to Shield. One thing I can't make it work is enable remote access. I was able to do that with my old set up on the pc. No double NAT and both have static IP address. This is Shield TV 16GB 2017 version. Can you help?

Perhaps Plex on the Shield uses a different port? Or maybe go into Plex and set a port manually and use that port number when enabling port forwarding on your router.

Change the port forwarding to point from the old server IP address to the Shield's IP address.

I understand from a friend that Netflix on the Shield will NOT do HDR at 4K/24, and that you must use 4K/60 for Netflix HDR. Is that the case for everyone or might that be specific to his setup (cabling issue etc)? Can it do Amazon HDR at 4K/24? Can the Shield do Vudu in HDR and if so at what frame rate?

With the right display and HDMI cables, does the Shield *reliably* play back Netflix and Amazon in 4K HDR?

Thanks!

Not sure how similar your display is to the 900e that I have, but be sure your HDMI settings are set to "Enhanced Mode", and use Ports 2 or 3 for these settings. Ensure that your Display is outputting 4K, and the same for the Shield.

This will allow for HDR rather than just Ultra 4K to appear in some titles via Netflix as well.

There was an update that for some reason defaulted the streaming settings to an "Automatic" setting. I downgraded to an earlier version of Plex, and this fixed my streaming issues. The current version, brought back the ability to "Direct Play" your files.

None of my updates have been that slow. Maybe restart the Shield and try again. Are you connected to you LAN with gigabit Ethernet?

It took an hour and a half LOL, 5ghz radio on gigabit modem.

Anyways, it finally finished and speeds on Amazon and Netflix are smoking. Netflix app speed test reported back at 233mbps, and the ultra HD test video hit 16,000 about as expected time wise. Amazon got UltraHD HDR quick, and it moves thru the apps quickly as well.

I left it on recommended settings of 4K 59.94 and ycbcr 420 10 bit 2020, and PQ is great on my Sony X940E. Works about as fluid on those apps as my X800, and I get HDR Amazon! HDR Netflix checked out OK too.
