yaDIS : Dune HD jukebox tutorial

As promised here is a tutorial for yadis 2.3 before the soon to come closing of the old mpcclub forum .

I'll try to be as comprehensive as possible by giving you also some useful tips on the most common problems. Some elements are taken from the tutorial done by Fred on Redmine .
Sorry for the screenshots, I'm lazy and it's in french. But I think that anyway it will be easy for you to match to your own language (buttons are the same, only the description is changing).

A few words about yaDIS :
yaDIS (yet another Dune Indexer and Skinner) has been developped by Fred-L in order to provide a fast, light and simple way to index and skin a movie and tv show library on HDI Dune multimedia players.

Main features :

• Compatible with Dune, Mede8er and TViX media players
• Movies and TV-Shows management
• Handling of several source folders
• Automatic scan of movies and tv shows (manual search available)
• Movie information in 18 languages (depends on TMDb content)
• TV-Shows information in 18 languages (depends on TheTVDb.com content)
• Multi-part movies support
• Detection of the technical informations of your media
• Manual editing of movie and tv show information
• Manual editing of movie and tv show artworks
• Index with 10 categories (recently added, genres, actors, directors, countries, years, ...)
• Manage a unique interface for all your medias even they are distributed on several sources
• Customizable Dune interface with template management
• Launch your medias on the Dune from yaDIS (requires a compatible firmware)
• 18 languages available for program's GUI.

For movies, yaDIS uses the themoviedb.org database to retrieve movie information, covers & fanarts.

For german and dutch languages, ofdb.de and moviemeter.nl are used.

For TV Shows, yaDIS uses thetvdb.com database to retrieve TV-Shows information, banners & fanarts.

LATEST VERSION : yadis 2.3 http://www.mediafire.com/download/8f.../yaDIS_2.3.exe

Extra tool : Duneedit. Duneedit is a small portable tool that emulates a dune on a PC, so you can navigate in the yadis menus exactly as if you were on your dune. Simply unzip the file and run the exe. Open the export folder and... that's it ! You can use it to as a tool to make screenshots, have some ideas to modify a template (gives you cordinates to then change in the template.xml), or simply preview a WYSIWYG of yadis. Download here : http://www.mediafire.com/download/v7...ditor+v1.5.zip

Basic requirements for yadis :
- You can mix movie files in a single folder , it's not a problem. But in practice I tend to strongly advise having 1 movie = 1 folder. If your files are in a big mess in one folder, I would recommend using file2folder (google it) to automatically move all files in a folder that will be named like the original file. Of course, using folder structure rips ( BDVM and video_ts ) makes the use of a folder for each movie mandatory.
- For TV shows you can have either one master folder with the name of the show and all individual episodes inside (whatever the season), or a master folder for the tv show + season subfolder(s) simply named by season number ( "01" , "02" etc ...)
- File names : it is simple, it must exactly match the name of the movie , nothing else. If you are unsure , check the name on TMDB before renaming yours. A software like The Renamer ( google it too) may be useful if you have many files with extra text (like DTS, 1080p, TVrip or other ...) that would need to be removed. NOTE : text inside () or [] are not taken into account. So you can still use (YEAR) after the movie name, no problem .
- You MUST separate your movies and TV series in different folders . No question to have TV series and movies mixed in a single folder.
- Yadis does not support sub-subfolders like /Movies/Toto/Toto1/toto1.mkv ( Toto is a trilogy and /toto1 , /toto2 , /Toto3 are located under a main subfolder /Toto, this one being itself under the main /movies folder).

Let's start with the main screen:

Yadis is very simple to use as it is limited to three steps through the three main buttons shown above . Let's see all those buttons in details :
1 . Setup : is the most important part since it will configure all your folders to scan and dune paths. It is also the most "complex " phase since it's there that you are most likely to make a mistake. The configuration is done only once and when you understand the process you can always come back to it, for example if you wish to add options or new directories to scan.

2 . Process is the " magic button " and the fun part of yadis . Once your files are added you will start to scrape with this button ( = data recovery from the net). It's also at this time that you can edit / correct the scrape .

3 . Export: is the button that will create the Dune interface. Not much to say here , it is only the result of 1 and 2 . And if all went well , you only have to click this button and it will create a folder (called "export folder") that will be read by your Dune and contains all the elements to display yadis on your TV .

Other buttons :
a Refresh : it speaks for itself ...

b Movie / TV Shows : button to switch views from movies to TV Shows lists

c Filters and Status : filter files according to their status (I will go into deeper details later in the 2/Process part)

d System Tools : two functions that can be useful if you have some bugs bug.
i . " Reset the Dune interface " resets the dune interface to 0 , once clicked you will need to re-process all your movies for a complete new construction of the interface, very helpful when we you see some display bugs on the dune ( "ghost" covers, duplicated movies or otherwise) that usually appear after a long period of exports with massive changes in the database. NOTE : Don't worry, all your manual changes are safe and the re-process is very fast as it doesn't take anything from the web but from the yadis internal database (the famous "workspace")
ii . "Flush the image cache " to use also if you see some display bug , some images are cached and may not have been cleared when exiting yadis (after a crash of your PC for example). To be used from time to time.

e Information : to know the version you are using if you have a doubt, but especially ... Yadis is the work of Fred , he put all his knowledge and passion to create an ultra stable software, easy to use, highly customizable and also lightweight and fast ( reduced "to the bones"), so do not hesitate to use the " donate " button and even if it's 1€ (or € 10,000 ! ) it will always make Fred happy to know that his work is appreciated

Let's go into the details now ...

1 . SETUP Menu
A. GENERAL tab

screenshots are from my "test" yadis, all paths and files you will see are 100% fake, do not take it as an example ...

1. Language and interface selection.
1.1. When selecting the language (FR here) to use in yadis you make it so it's used not only for the software interface but also for the recovery of all the data on the web (tmdb/tvdb), it allows having the syno / titles / etc in the selected language (if it's available on TVDB / TMDb of course ... if it isn't available in general it is English that will be used, or the only language available if there's only one) .
1.2. Profile : yadis is mainly done for Dune players, but also allows for export to Mede8er and Tivx . This tutorial is primarily dedicated to the Dunes, so I will not speak about other players (because i don't know it...).
1.3. " Basic Mode " : it deserves explanation because some tend to check this option without really knowing what it is... The Basic mode is a "basic browsing" mode, it's a mini yadis that will simply add to every movie/tv shows folder a jpg file that corresponds to the yadis backdrop preview (the one you can see in the main window) + a dune_folder.txt to launch the movie from this backdrop. In this mode NO MENU is created (except a mini-menu for TV shows), the idea is that you must use the basic navigation of the dune ( "windows explorer" style ) to browse your folders where your files are, yadis is doing the bare minimum and displays a nice visual when you go into the folder and launch the file when you click play... NOTE : this mode makes it mandatory to use 1 file = 1 folder, and all TV episodes from a show MUST be in the same folder (no episode from one show spread across various locations)

2. Workspace : the famous " workspace " ... Consider the workspace like the real database of yadis . This is where ALL the data from your movies / series are preserved as well as all the manual changes you could have done. You can change where its location, the default location keeps it in yadis' installation folder (the one you chose during installation). I personally suggest to leave it there and NEVER make any modification ( unless you know what you are doing and you are doing it at your own risks). The workspace is a key element of yadis and you can back it up regularly to save your work from a PC crash or else.

3. Dune interface location (note that in Basic mode this line does not exist) : This is where you export your collection to a format that can be read by the dune. This location must be accessible from your dune, whether it's a local disk (internal or USB attached to the dune) or network location does not matter , as long as the dune can access it.

4. Automatically add ... : option to add all the new movies in a given selection , for example add it to an " unseen " Selection. If checked a small window appears on the right to choose this Selection. More information about the Selections in part 2/Process

5. Ignore articles for the sort of movies : allows yadis to remove automatically articles (the, die, el...) from the beginning of the movie name and use it as sorting title. For example, " the history of Toto" will automatically be considered to be classified in H (" history of Toto , the ") instead of T. By checking this box , a window opens to the right to allow you to manually determine the articles you do not want to be taken into account. NOTE : sorting title doesn't change the real movie name, so "The history of Toto" will still be displayed like that in the movie backdrop, even if sorted under the H letter.

6. Movie database : either TMDB (free), or CinéPassion for french people who have a subscription to this scraper. If you use yadis in english you can chose certification between US or UK ratings (all other languages are using their own local certifications)

B. FOLDERS tab

This is the MOST IMPORTANT tab and also the most complicated. Normally you only need to do this once , unless you add some new folders to scan later in which case you will just need to re-do the same process as described below.

As you can see this is where we will add the folders containinge th files to scan and the "dune path" which is what will allow your dune to play the files. This path is nothing more but the path to your files but "translated" into the language Dune .

1. Type: to be selected according to the material, depending if it's a folder containing movies, or it's a folder with TV shows. NOTE : remember, no movies/tv shows mixed in the same folder !

2. Folders: this is where you select the folder to be scanned. Rule N°1 : if it's a network drive NEVER USE DISC MAPPING ( with a standard x :/ letter created using "add a network drive " in windows), always use UNC path to add network folders (through "Network " at the bottom left of the explorer window that will open when you will have to point to the folder to scan ). In doing so, you should have high chances that yadis will automatically create a proper SMB Dune path without your intervention. However, even if the automation gives good results in most cases in SMB, it's necessary to verify that the path is correct. For the automation to work correctly for an external hard disk, you need will need to name the disk and don't leave it's name empty. NOTE : NFS path are done 100% manually

3. This is where it all happens. If the automatic creation worked , great. Otherwise you'll have to do it manually. [i] WARNING: what's indicated in this scrolling window ARE ONLY EXAMPLES, just clicking on one of those lines will not work, it is imperative to fill the address manually if the automatic path generation didn't work ... [/ i]

Depending on the source folder, Yadis use one of these three types of Dune path : " smb ", " storage_uuid " or " storage_label ".

"smb" is used when the source file is on a network location (NAS, PC , ... ) . The path will be in this format: "smb://user: password@host/share/path" . The parameters "user" and "password" are optional. You will have to modify the path manually if a user name and password are required to establish the network connection. "host" is the IP address (preferably used instead of the host name) and "share" the network share name . "path" is optional and corresponds to a path to the folder in the network share.

"storage_uuid" is used when the source folder is on a hard drive (internal or USB ) connected to the Dune when using Yadis . The path will be in this format: "storage_uuid://uuid/path". "uuid" is the unique identifier of the hard disk (long random string of figures and letters), it is visible by clicking on popup menu / information on your dune remote when the disk icon (in dune Sources tab) is selected. "path" is optional and corresponds to a folder on the disc.

"storage_label" is used when the source folder is on a hard drive connected directly to the computer running Yadis and will be connected after to the Dune, it can also be used instead of storage_UUID (much more convenient than typing by hand a random sequence of 25 letters and numbers ...). The path will be in this format: "storage_label://label/path". "label" is the name of the hard disk AS VISIBLE IN WINDOWS (if you have a doubt, on your PC right click on the drive, then properties, the real name of the disc appears on the first line of the General tab to the right side after the disk icon). "path" is optional and corresponds to a folder on the disc. NOTE: for those who have a Dune local disk (internal or USB) and used Zappiti or MyMovies before yadis, BE SURE TO CHECK if at the root of your hard you have a dune_folder.txt file, with inside a single line "storage_name = XXXX" . If you have it, delete the file , or use as "label" XXXX EVEN IF IT'S DIFFERENT FROM THE DISC REAL NAME you have in Windows. I personally recommend the deletion as a radical and easy solution...

NFS : in theory has little interest compared to SMB. In practice it may solve some network problems in specific cases. To be tested if necessary. Each brand of NAS uses a syntax of its own. When in doubt post back on the forum for a little help ...

Here are some case studies to determine the way to have a correct Dune path :

The source folder is on a NAS or PC shared folder
Folder set up in Yadis : \\DS409\Movies
Dune Path : smb://192.168.0.1/Movies (preferably using the IP instead of the name " DS409 " and add a user name and password, in front of the IP, if required)

The source file is on the internal drive or on a USB drive in the Dune
Folder set up in Yadis : \\DUNE\DuneHDD_87fabad0_3181_4878_b102_4a47e7f9626 0\Movies
2 possibilities for the dune path :
storage_uuid://87fabad0_3181_4878_b102_4a47e7f96260/Movies
OR
storage_label://DuneHDD/Movies (check if this is the disk name as it appears in windows + check if there is not a dune_folder.txt at the root of the disk )

The source folder is on an external drive connected to the PC running Yadis and will then be reconnected to the Dune after
Folder set up in Yadis : D:\ Movies
Dune path : storage_label://MyBook/Films ( " MyBook " is the name of the disk D:\ as seen in Windows)

C. INTERFACE tab

1. Template :
The template influences the look of the interface. Yadis offers two themes out-of-the-box : Origins and GLASS Revisited. Other templates have been created by Yadis users and a topic is available (sticky) on the yadis section in the MPCC forum.
Double-click on the image and you can view a full-screen preview of the theme . NOTE: To apply a new template you will have to select all your movies / series and hit "process" (or " Process all episodes " for a TV show) don't worry it goes very fast, once done just start an Export so the dune interface can be build with the new template.
You can find most of the templates in this topic Yadis templates for Dune HDI players (emergency backup thread) or from this website created by johnblanker http://dunejukebox.com/yadis/templates/

2. Options :
These are some interface display options.
"Using cases for movies " allows the use of boxe-art to display movies. Several types of box-art are available : Blu -ray, 3D Blu-ray , DVD , MKV, ... If this option is not checked , the appearance of the covers is defined by the theme used (often in the form of a poster). By default, this option is not enabled. NOTE : depending on the template you are using, you might avoid to use box-art or it will look weird simply because it wasn't planned to be used by the template author
"Display the selection frame " allows you to choose if the selection frame is displayed or not around the covers, banners and other selectable elements in the interface. This option is enabled by default.
" Display the scroll bar " controls whether a scrollbar is displayed (right side) when the number of items displayed is higher than what can fit on the screen. This option is enabled by default.

3. Synopsis format :
Select the file format used for synopsis (background in reality). The AAI format, natively supported by dune players, provides a better picture (theoretically) and a faster display. But this format uses a lot of disk space and slows down the export process. JPG format takes much less disk space and gives shorter time to export. The difference in quality between the two formats is minimal IMO. You should use JPG especially if your collection of movies and series is relatively big. The JPG quality is 90 %, I suggest you keep it that way. This option only impacts movies, not TV series that are necessarily generated using AAI (and therefore can take up much space following the template used).

4. Selections : Here you can check the Selections that will appear in the "Movies" menu of yadis on your dune. More details about Selections in 2/Process.

5. Recently added : yadis offers a special menu for movies recently added. Here you can configure the time span (last 60 days by default) and sorting to apply (alphabetically or by date). The date taken into account is when you scanned and processed the file.

6. Categories: categories you can choose to display or not in the yadis movie menu (second row). See by yourself what interests you most...

7. Shortcuts in Main menu : this option is very interesting and rarely used (I think). It allows you to add directly in the yadis menu (first row, same level as Movies and TV Series) new entries freely chosen by the user. There may be different types : a Selection (see below for explanation), a specific genre (eg. access to all SF movies) or location (directly open the selected location in the dune UI, for example a photo folder ...). You can scroll the menu below to select the Genre/Selection amongst existing ones, or a location (you will need to manually create it). Click Add and what you have selected will appear in the left panel. You can select the order in the menu by drag&drop with your mouse over the selected shortcut ( right -click on a line and then pull up / down to rearrange the order) NOTE 1 . To remove a shortcut, select it and then simply press Delete on your keyboard ... NOTE 2 : a movie in a shortcut (or Selection) ALWAYS appears in the other filters of yadis (year, genres...) , it's just a shortcut, not a complete reorganization of the menus and your collection.

D. REMOTE tab (last on the right) : I absolutely don't know what it's used for...
luft likes this.

2 . PROCESS

Once your files are scanned they are added to the left panel yadis with a red " ! " meaning that they are waiting for processing. Process is made to recover all movie information ( syno , actors, ... ) and technical file info (format, resolution ,...).
This part is fun and this is where you will have plenty of time to spend if you want to have a collection tailored to your taste and preferences ...

A. The Process itself :

1.
The Process button is easy to use since it's usually just a one click to start. If your files are named correctly there will be nothing else to do. If the search does not work as expected (error when matching a movie), open the button to access some options. The main one is " change title " which will open the window you see just above (I will detail below). "Reload information" can completely re-scan the file if necessary. "Reload technical" info only rescan technical data without changing the rest. NOTE: for TV series this process menu is a little bit different with an extra line " Process all episodes ", this is used when you change the template, the simple use of "process" when changing template is not enough and causes display bugs ... "process all episodes " can properly apply the new template to the entire TV show (to be used only when changing the template, "process" alone can be used after as usual)

2. Manual Search: imagine that your file is not well identified by yadis, it may be the case for example for two movies with the same name in tmdb. By clicking "Change title" you will see this window. In the search box enter the name (the one you think is correct) of the movie and click on the magnifying glass. Yadis will check TMDB (or TVDB for series , the principle is the same) that will send back all the results of this request in the form of No. 3 (cover + local title + original title + some more infos) so that you can select the correct title. NOTES : In some complicated cases it may be useful to search for the title in its original language, the results are often better and do not worry information will always be loaded in your local language (if it exists of course ). If it's an homonym you can specify the year in addition to the title, for example Toto 2005 does not give the same result as Toto 1939. If any doubt about the name, do not hesitate to do a search directly on TMDB.com (TVDB.com for series) and change your file/folder name to match exactly the one on tmdb.

B. Bottom panel

This is probably where you will spend most of your time (if you want). I think it is quite simple to understand and there is not much to say. You can manually change everything in this section: parts of the movie production, choose the cover and fanart that you like, or manually modify the technical data reported automatically (especially choose the type of box-art, for example 3D ) .

Some tips for this part:
NOTE 1: For fields with multiple options, such as genres or actors , the convention is to use the comma "," as a separator.
NOTE 2 : for genres you have a pop-up menu (the icon on the right of the field) that will bring up the a list of the existing ones. Each genre manually added will be added in the list to be used later. You can play with the filter tool to filter specific genres if necessary. Warning: the genres from TMDB / TVDB are sometimes "weird" and may require manual corrections if this is an important thing for you ...
NOTE 3 : In the fanart / cover part , by right-clicking with the mouse, you will get a context menu allowing you to search for other visuals on your HDD or directly in Google (via opening your web browser and a search on google image based on the film's title ). It will help you to further customize and use something else than what TMDB / TVDB is offering. WARNING : check the ratio and resolution (not 16/9, over 1920x1080...) of imported pictures not coming from TMDb / TVDB, otherwise yadis might crash ...
NOTE 4: The TV Series part is similar but more limited. You can't change the technical details, and most importantly you can't change the data per episodeor season, only for the complete show (expected changes in V3).

C. Filters and status :

Small option very handy to use especially if you have a very large collection and / or your collection changes very quickly, the filters help you to manage a large amount of files and filters what you need and not more.

Possible statuses are:
Checked (green mark) : everything is OK, you don't need to touch it anymore
Not checked (blue mark): The scrape is done ( = you clicked the Process button and yadis did his job) , but you can still have some manual amendments to do. Waiting for your approval to go "checked".
Missing (orange "!") : network drive is not available , for example, or folder to scan is not available. A "missing element" is in a phase of stasis, it is there, the data is still in the workspace but yadis asks you to see what is wrong in terms of access to the file / folder...Can happen if the files are on a removable USB drive not connected for example, as soon as it's re-connected its statuses will come back to the state they were before disconnection.
Not processed : either it is a new addition that must be processed or it is an old movie that you deleted from your drive : the folder to scan is there, but not the file (simply select it and press delete on your keyboard to definitively remove it from yadis).

NOTE : Some files are in " ! " Red and can't be scraped by yadis or are always turning back to the red "!" even if it was previously scraped. The first thing to do in this case is to verify that there is not a duplicates, ie a file/folder which is twice in your collection with the exact name. Also check if it is not a duplicate movie / tv show (a tv show that became a movie with the same name ( a good example : Serenity...), or a namesake duplicate (two films with two different years of production but same title or the same film with 2 versions SD and HD. Solution is to slightly alter the name of one of them). If not resolved , try to change the file location. If it still doesn't work, post on the forum, we'll try to find the solution.

You can also filter through genres/ selection/saga and reverse filters (filter exclusive) if necessary, to get all the movies that are not in the SF genre for example. The genres filter is very useful to correct errors from TMDB / TVDB (Toy Story with "adult" genre...)

D. Titles context menu

By clicking the right mouse button on a title you will see this contextual menu with some very interesting options ...

1. The first part is about your files. "Open Data folder" opens Windows Explorer directly into the workspace folder of the selected title. As I already said, do not touch it unless you know what you're doing. If you have any questions about this, ask on the forum. " Open Media Folder " simply opens the folder where your file is located . "Open the information sheet " opens your web browser diretcly on the TMDb/TVDB page devoted to the selected movie / show.

2. The second part is the same thing that you already found under the Process button , providing two additional options: delete the title in yadis (definitive, but does not affect the original file of course), and the possibility to manually create a entry (for personal movies for example) without the need to check TMDB since you know that the film does not exist there ...

3. Saga and Selections: what is it?
3.1. A saga is a collection of films, "boxes in a box ." With this menu you create a master title that will host several slaves titles. On the movie wall only the master title will be displayed, clicking on it will bring a mini-wall with slaves titles, clicking on a slave title will bring the usual backdrop. The logic is to use it for movies by series (Star Wars 1/2/3... ), but personaly I also like to use the Sagas for " narrative arcs " and mix different elements making part of the same universe (and not necessarily a simple N+1 movie list). NOTE: Sagas are only visible in yadis "all movies" menu. In other menus (genre, year , actors ... ) titles are always presented individually.
3.2. How to create a saga ? Select a movie , open the context menu by right clicking with your mouse, go to "saga". In the blank field that appears to the right, type the name of your saga and press Enter on your keyboard. Done, you just added a movie in a saga, this saga will also be available to add other movies in the same menu (drop down list). NOTE 1: a film can only be part of a single saga. NOTE 2 : There is a small display bug in the sagas menu, the mouse scroll doesn't work so that if you have a lot of sagas you can't go lower than the bottom of your PC screen. Solution : navigate with the arrow keys to go beyond the last saga visible (will be corrected in V3).

3.3. Edit a saga. As you can see on the previous screen , by selecting a saga you can either delete or edit it. "Edit" opens a new window where you can manage your saga. "Name of the saga " needs no explanation ... "name for sorting " allows you to name it differently for sorting the saga in yadis, for example my saga is called "Toto" (the name that will appear in the sage mini-wall), I can decide to give a new sorting name " Stories of Toto " to sort it in the S of the wall and not at the end with T (the main movie wall is in alphabetical order). "Members of the saga " displays the titles part of the saga, you can set the order by a drag&drop with the mouse (the top one will be the first to the left in the mini-wall , the lower one the last to the right) so that your 1/2/3 movies are in correct order. " cover " and " fanart ": these are the elements that will be used for display on the wall and as fanart for the mini-wall dedicated to the saga, you can choose which one to use by clicking on the pictures. NOTE: yadis unfortunately only allows to use pictures from the movies which are part of the saga, not possible at the moment to use an external picture (evolution planned for V3).

3.4. Selection Selection is a totally free item that allows a custom classification for movies, a kind of "super personal category". For example you can create a Selection called " worst movies with Nicolas Cage and his wig " if you like .. The advantage of using a Selection is that it does not impact genres (so they stay clean), it is totally free and only your imagination is the limit, you can have as many as you want, a film can be part of multiple selections at once (while also being part of a saga !) and you can use the Selections in the yadis shortcuts in menus (see above in the Configuration section). The creation of a Selection is identical to Sagas, there is no Edit menu, just Delete.

4. Toggle check state : You can put a title directly in the Checked (green) status. Now it's 100% consistent with your wishes and you no longer need to touch it .
termite and luft like this.

3 . EXPORT

Now that everything is done, just click on the EXPORT button and yadis will generate the interface that your dune will read and will display all menus, backdrops , TV series , shortcuts, sagas... you have created. Once the first export is done, the next ones are particularly fast because it's incremental, only changes since the last export are exported.

That's all, I hope it will help you...

4 . MISCELLANEOUS

4.1 The (famous) double SMB access bug...
This bug comes from Dune and not yadis , it also happens with all other existing jukebox .

Under which circumstances does it occur ?
It occurs only when your export folder is located and accessed on an SMB share, while your files, also accessed by SMB, are on a different share.

How can you see it ?
You will get an error message on the dune " unable to open URL://blablablah " when you want to play a movie. Oddly you probably find that some films work, but not others, and you'll scratch your head for hours asking yourself where is the error you made in the configuration of your dune paths ...

example:
NAS has two shares //Server/volume1/ and //Server/volume2/

imagine that the interface is in Volume 1 and files in volume 1 and 2, the export yadis directory is accessed through SMB (you created a favorite after browsing network/smb on the dune), and all dune paths for files in volumes 1 and 2 were also configured using SMB . If you start yadis, you will be able to read files located in volume1 as the export folder is also located there (the dune opens only one SMB connection to volume1 for yadis interface and files in the same share), but not in the volume2 because the dune will consider that you "double call smb" : first for yadis in volume 1 and a second one to play the file located in volume 2, and a Dune is completely unable to do that...
This is also why some users with the export directory on their NAS have the bug and others do not : if you have a single share in your NAS for example, with everything in it, then there's only one smb access open and no problem.

Solutions :
1 . put yadis' export fodler on a USB stick attached to the dune. In doing so, the dune will only open one smb access to play the file, yadis being stored locally there is no need for another SMB connection. This is the solution that I recommend , if you can/want to do it.
2 . If you want to permanently keep your yadis interface on the NAS, then you need to create a shortcut to yadis export folder using NFS (instead of SMB). The dune will open one NFS connection to read the interface and only one SMB connection to play the file. NOTE : You can perfectly do the opposite , ie files accessed by NFS and interface by SMB , or even use NFS for everything (files and interface)

4.2 yNu : semi automated seen/unseen add on for yadis
yNu is a small third party software that makes very easy to manage seen/unseen movies/tv shows. The software is only in french, unfortunately, and was developped by a user from the french HCFr forum specifically for Yadis. The most complicated (because it's in french) part will be the set up, then it's just a one click process to do just before hitting the Export button in Yadis. i made an english tutorial with some translated screenshots if you want to use it : yaDIS : Dune HD jukebox tutorial

Hope I can be of assistance to the community

Hi Eric,

Just "moved" over here to be able to assist those that use a Dune device.

Hope I can be of any assistance in the near future.

Best regards,

My Movies is definitively the most complex one to use, but their ios/android/WP App is clearly the best. Zappiti might be the most simple to setup/use but customization is close to 0. Yadis is quite easy to set up and very easy (and fast) to use with high customization. Customization is the main reason why I chose Yadis, but I'm still using MM for my disc collection and the ipad App that I use from time to time.

If you have a local drive attached or inside the dune, start by using yadis, then the others. See B.3."storage_label"/note in the tutorial to know why... If you only have network drives then you can start with any of them, it doesn't matter.

While I have installed some spare 1 TB drives inside of my Dunes nothing is presently on them - my content is stored on iSCSI SANs and served by a Windows 2003 server ( or for some small part of the content from a Windows 2008 R2 server running as a virtual machine under VMware ESXi ).

Can I run yaDis and My Movies at the same time? Will there be conflicts? I do like the idea of the iPad app

One more question - does either yaDis or MM support offline titles - like if I put the DVD or Blu-Ray into the PC drive will it catalog and scrape for it? I have a few Blu-Rays that I haven't ripped and many DVDs that are still on the original shiny disc and would like to be able to browse for those also and be prompted to just use the disk in my Oppo.

(Obviously I haven't used any kind of jukebox app before)

1. Yes you can use both yadis and MM as long as all your files are on a network drive and no files are on the dune drives (in fact your situation where you could have multiple dune drives with different files is the most complicated one to manage so my advice is to never use it...)
2. mM is built to manage offline discs so it's clearly not a problem. For yadis there's a small trick to do : for your offline discs, just create a folder with the disc name and inside a dummy video file (someone created one, check the last pages of the main dune thread). Yadis will scrappe it. But by doing so you might also have the MM movie profile linked to this dummy file and not considered as offline anymore (don't think that would be a big deal anyway).

yaDIS is the best interface I have ever tried. Been using it for over a year without problems. Would have been great with a Mac friendly app but since this is a free application I understand the concept and the free time used - so I am happy and thankful for this!

I meant the Case dropdown on the Media tab when "Use cases for movies" is checked. It currently have cases for BR, BR3D, etc... I would like to add a custom case for example ISO on the dropdown list. The way I am doing it now is just change one of the PNG files in the Images folder.

case format are fixed, so you can't add any. The best thing is to change the boxart (changing the png as you did) for a format that you don't use (HD-DVD for example) then use it manually for ISO.

It doesn't matter where your files are. You can scrappe attached or network drives. But obviously if your dune isn't connected to your network it's going to be a bit complicated for yadis to see your files from your PC... But if you are ready to move your dune drive to your PC, it's possible to use it.

Hi

After updating to Windows 10 i have a weird problem with yaDIS.

When adding a new movie or updating an old one all the text (descripton, actors etc.) is in capital letters, even when the synopsis is not.

See attached screenshot.

I just updated yesterday to windows 10 and didn't try yadis yet. That's a strange bug...

I will try to contact Fred if he can do something about that, but it's holidays season and I'm nit sure he will be able to have a look at it (not even sure he uses win10 as well)

This method works as I also have hard drives hooked up directly to my Dune Base 3 via USB.

Just need to point yadis to the correct folders by going through 'network'
