Full disclosure: I don't have the Nvidia Shield yet. I have about 3 Roku's
I think that the Nvidia Shield is probably the best streaming media player in the market at this time.
* UHD 3840x2160 at 60p
* It is the only one that can stream Netflix and Youtube at 4k
* HDMI 2.0
* 10 bit color
* Dolby 7.1 surround sound
* NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor (64-bit CPU): Nvidia claims: "34x better than Apple TV, 25x better than Roku 3, and 8x better than Fire TV"
* 256-core NVIDIA graphics
* 3 GB RAM
* Android TV, Google Cast Ready
* 16 GB storage
* MicroSD card slot for additional storage
* 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi
* Gigabit Ethernet
* Two USB 3.0, micro-USB
* SHIELD Controller included
* Optional Remote with head phone jack
I would buy one if I was in the market for one. I was hoping that the price would drop from $199. I'm still waiting.
"HD audio, DTS-HD MA, Dolby True HD & Dolby Atoms can not be passed through/bitstreamed, nor can those formats be software decoded and output as multichannel PCM (at this time), with the exception of possibly True HD (needs further confirmation). However, DTS (core from DTS-HD MA) and DD 5.1(AC3) can be passed through/bitstreamed or software decoded and output as multichannel PCM."
This is obviously very subjective, I've tried many players and the only one that I've owned that could play anything I threw at it was a cheap piece of Crap Micca Player but it really lacked in a lot of areas so I got a Mede8er which is much better but does have some issues playing ISO Files, I ended up converting them to MKV Files and the issues went away.
So I'd say Mede8er MED600, 800 or 1000x3D is a good bet, It will do what you are asking at a pretty reasonable price. I've heard really good things about the Dune lineup and also PCH (Popcorn Hour) but they were not available here in the US at the time and I am not sure if you can get them now or not but I know there was something about a new version in the works.
And Yes the Mede8er Does Pass Through HD Audio, I have a Denon Atmos Receiver and it passed 7.1 as well as Atmos without any issues.
What about HTPC ..,
Which is the best display Card In the market right now...
I just need it for dedicated Home Theatre movie watching Use..
no Gaming...
It should play ripped Mkvs..
Best Video Processing
And Audio Passthrough

A $1000 video card really doesn't do anything more for video quality than a $25 one. You can't improve video solely by adding a new card.
What you can do with a more expensive card, and you will find a lot of posts about this in the htpc forum, is to run custom rendering software like MadVR. That will require more GPU and CPU power than simply playing 1080p.
FWIW I'd say the majority of htpc forum regulars simply use Intel's integrated graphics or AMD APUs. The rest have a more powerful card for 4K or MadVR.
I will mention the one I have as well for you to look at. Minix Neo X8-H plus. This one also does 4K ultra HD. You can find user reviews on youtube for this player.
Guyz When I play a movie say Avatar through My PS3 the colors I see are more vibrant and rich with Pop on my screen.. And when I play it through my Netgear Neotv550 with sigma 8642 chip I find the colors a bit dull in comparison..
My PS3 was in my living room and I just shifted it yesterday temporary to see how games work on my projector.. Later I watched couple of ripped Mkvs like Avatar etc through PS3.. I noticed the differnce in color.. The scenes were little on the darker side but the pop and vibrancy of colors was extra ordinary..
To make myself fully sure of the difference I played same stuff through Neotv 550 and the colors looked very dull in comparison..
Why would you say I would notice such a difference ?
I'd wager the PS3 has more video settings than the other box you used. What color space is it set to? RGB or YCbCr? Were the inputs on the receiver/display set up differently?
I won't go into spec's as this you can look up as I'm very pleased with the new Cambridge CXN. I have mine hooked up with a NAD 787, incredible reception & sound quality. You will need the BT100 for Bluetooth which is all that expensive. Check Cambridge's website out, very pleased. Also a big thumbs up to my new NAD T787
From your first post, The device you want is an Oppo 103D running "rogue" firmware or as it is more commonly called jailbreak firmware. It will stream flawlessly from your NAS, pass through all HD audio codecs, play 3D flawlessly, play from attached hard drives as well, and come with the great picture quality that Oppo is known for.
Downsides are: Ugly ass GUI. It simply lists the titles in alpha order. If you want a pretty interface, this ain't it. If you want a device that will stream Blu Ray ISO files including 3D from your NAS or attached hard drives with excellent picture quality it does not get any better than this. I have owned AT LEAST 50 different media streamers from various companies and have dabbled with the pioneers with custom firmware as well. This is a huge hobby for me and I enjoy playing with new toys. (like most people here)
I had previously listed a 103 with the "rogue" firmware and it sold within minutes of posting. The only reason
I sold that one was because I upgraded to the "D" version as I am a huge Darbee fan as well.
Fro some reason we can talk openly about ripping blu ray and other copyrighted media but we can NOT openly discuss the merits of the Oppo when jailbroken, but only in passing. So if you have any questions about it, please feel free to drop me an email. (located in the about me page) I have played dozens of movies through the Oppo and could not be happier.

Mecmec how would you rate this oppo 103 vs a nice HTPC setup... ?
I have read even with medium setups now a days you can run 1080p with 3d..
And picture quality should be parallel to the best of players..
That too at very less cost compared to such player
