Only if BD Menu subscription is in place. If not, then only the lite engine which does not support forced flags in ISOs.

I've paid for my sins. We're even!

I own two Solo 4k's and love them. I honestly don't even know what the implication is of not getting Android...

My use is to play movies I own and have ripped, via the Binnerup MyMovies iOS app, and that work's great for ISO and BDMV alike.

It does not have any implication in the way you are currently using your players.
You simply are not going to get the specifications you paid for, when you bought the player.
Please think that you may want to sell the players (on eBay) in few years and upgrade to the latest model.
You will not be entitled to say in the specifications "Dual Boot Linux + Android" as it is stated now in the (printed) user manual at page 4.

Thank you

I think that Dune should (also) prepare a (big) permanent price decrease because of the failure to implement android.
Thank you

But that doesn't benefit existing owners of the Dune Solo 4K.

I am just trying to guess what will happen.

None. Enjoy the Solo 4K like most of us are. Don't let the negative bias deter from enjoying what this player can do.

Basically most of the apps (that are applicable) that are on Google Play could be installed on your Dune.
If you have iPhone then think that Google Play has similar apps as App Store.
Some people said on this forum that they would like to have Netflix, Plex, Kodi, these are just few examples.
And as I mentioned the re-sale price of your Dune dropped since Dune silently withdraw Android from the specs.
Thank you

How about having your favorite application (Binnerup MyMovies iOS app) on Dune?
There is similar application for Android :-).
You could install on your Dune, if you have Android on Dune.

I have MyMovies on my iPad, browse the titles there, and selected Play. It plays on the Dune. Couldn't be simpler.

If you consider simpler to use 2 devices (Dune & iPad) to do the same thing as you could do by using only 1 device (Dune), then you are right, it is simpler :-)

Hes happy with his Dune and he's stated that more than once he doesn't need the Android ability. Why are you continuing to go on and try to convince him otherwise? Clearly you have a negative agenda here. We all see it very clearly. Thank you.

10 foot GUI's are really cumbersome. The ability to quickly scan through, search, and filter several hundred movies using the iPad app is clearly better, especially since I can Play To any Dune on the network easily from it, or any iOS device.

So yes, two devices are objectively superior than one as considered in this instance.

I just saw this post so hopefully my reply isn't out of context. I'm a long time user of MyMovies and Dunes. And I'm generally not a fan of iPad remote control. I am the author of an apparently popular MyMovies Dune customization template that shows covers in a 5x11 format for large screens. BUT... I got an iPad mini as a gift a year or so ago. So of course I loaded MyMovies onto it. Now I'm a convert. I find using it to search for and select movies superior to using the on-screen interface. It's like using a HTPC MyMovies application without the pain and hassle of using an HTPC. I find it much more enjoyable to use to select a movie. I can quickly sort and filter in a variety of ways. If there was anyone who would lean toward the on-screen interface it would probably be me. I now use the iPad app for MyMovies control. It bridges the flawless hassle free playback of the dune with a quick, robust browsing application.

HTH,
Scott

Hi all, Been awhile!
I finally got a AVR that will pass through 4K (Onkyo TXNR646)
It's been awhile and I can't find in the thread or remember what settings I need to play 4K content.
Video Mode? / Additional Video Settings?
Display is a Sony Bravia XBR 55X850C
Thanks!

It is fine as you did it.
You can also use INFO buton on your Onkyo remote, o display video input parameters on the TV screen - just to be sure what signal comes from Dune.
Please also remember to set enchanced mode for HDMI input used to connect AVR, at your Sony TVset.

I am finally getting a 4k avr as well. I will be experiencing 4k on the new Dune for the first time and tinkering with the same settings. Thanks for the screenshots.

Sure thing, Not much content but we have to justify these purchases with 4K trailers ^_^

Could someone recommend a 4K trailer/demo that I could check compatibility?
Most of the stuff I'm getting from Demo UHD are having compatibility issues.
I'm playing locally of the Dune HD.

Does AVS forum have a reference clip?

Thanks

I have only played test files but the spec says "For Ultra HD (4K) Videos, it looks like the new BD spec calls for 10-Bit H.265 encoding and allows for a maximum bitrate of 128 Mbps. I'm not entirely sure whether this is just for video, audio and video combined"
But the jellyfish-140-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv test file plays via NFS over a gigabit network without either audio or video stuttering and no buffer underruns, also this file hits 174Mbps at times. There is an embedded link to many more test files if anyone wants to do further testing.

I see Germany, Netherlands (maybe whole Benelux), Poland. But I am not familiar with their politics, if they allow cross-country sale, and if Austria is handled by DE, etc

You can check this site: http://demo-uhd3d.com/
Lot of 4k samples, all h265 samples up to 30fps shall work fine.
Some files have special compatibility notes, that can be played only at some TV sets (via USB), but there is only a few such files. Skip them.

No so much details.
Dune plans to develop music part of MyCollection, but it is lot to do. Maybe we will see a piece of that in next version.
But Dune is releasing Duo4k now, and polishes initial version of its firmware.
For Solo4k we will get something at the end of the year, or beginning of January. To early for details now.
