Does anybody know the IR or IP command for Hardware Standby?

I'm not looking for the standard Discrete Off commands (00 BF 5E A1) but the one that puts the Dune into full power off.

The IR protocol document is somewhat out of date and although it states that such a command exists, it also says it will be published later.

I use a NAS (custom-built using unRaid - 6TB) to locally stream mkv bluray rips (1080, etc. - hoping one day 4K HDR too) to various devices around my house.

Oppo 203 - HT AND/OR. Nvidia Shield - HT - via Plex
Roku 3 - Upstairs TV - via Plex
Two Roku TVs - kids rooms - via Plex

For my HT area, what would a Dune HD Solo 4K add for my setup?

If your Oppo203 is modded for ISO playback then it would not bring much to the table.

There is no streaming apps if you use netflix/amazon/vudo on your Rokus or Shield. the 4k playback is 40k/30fps your shield will do 4k/60fps.

radio silence for a while. the current firmware works well, the only missing feature I really wanted was 3D MVC MKV support which most other media players have supported for years.

I used my Zidoo X8 most of the time now, the Dune is my 'portable' media player because I have a 2TB drive in the bottom which is great for carrying around a ton of content in a small package.

I don't have any issues with playback - rock solid. What I would really want is a comprehensive update to My Collection.

My guess is Sigma put them in a bad spot. They could continue to develop the Dune SOLO models but with issues of no new sigma chip means all the work is is pretty much going into already sold hardware without a return on the investment. In the past all work on the Sigma's could be ported to new models as the sdk was pretty universal. If they are going to have to jump to another chipset its all lost work.

I have a Dune Solo 4k and I'm very happy with it. For me it is the best media player in the market. But, as any product, it has same problems and room for some improvement. I hope they add them to the next firmware:

- the Zoom (Custom) black bars for 4:3 media crops the image when I try to zoom it
- the ability to choose chapters inside a MKV file for playlists
- a way to turn off the "there's a new update" message for that media player library software

Hello,

maybe someone can help me here.
I have several 4K Files (x265, 10Bit, 2160p) and, except one of them, every file is, compared to the same file in 1080p, colorless (see attached pictures). Is this something I can "fix" with the settings on my Dune? I have entered 4K/24Hz/10Bit in the setting.

Regards,
Andreas

Most probably your 2160p files have hdr in it which the Dune doesn't support btw and this is what you're seeing, washed out colors. I too have read a "fix" but not sure if it works on both 1080p and 2160p displays and what exactly the steps are and if they need "fixing" on player, display or both.

Hello all Dune users,

Could anyone post some pictures of current playback GUI with last beta firmware? I'd like to know if GUI has been improved since this review.

Thanks in advance.

The dune gui has pretty much been the same for ages, nice and simple.

You can apply different themes but not many.

Hdr
I believe there is an option in video settings to do a conversation and then the colours don't looked washed out.

I have tested it with 4k hdr file but on my 1080p setup and works fine.

Thank you. Have Dune added additional information for video and audio on playback? As far I know, no information about codec nor bitrate is shown on playback.

Regarding this, how is HDR to SDR emulation for non-HDR screens? I have a Zappiti 4K HDR and conversion is not accurate (despite its SoC supports BT.2020/HDR10). As a result, you can see the colors on SDR emulation mode for a HDR movie on a non-HDR screen slightly brighter than the colors shown for the SDR version. Tested with 2 versions of the same movie (Passengers), one encoded in 4K HDR and another in 1080p SDR.

Thanks again.

Hi,

It does give very detailed information. Ie on video

Video

Chapters
Container
Codec
Video resolution
Current video mode
Maximum bitrate
Average bitrate
Current bitrate
Duration
Position
Remaining time

Music

Title
Artist
Album
Track
Date
Genre
Codec
Average bitrate
Position

Under setup then video then addtional video setting you have option for BT 2020 /HDR conversation as yes/no

The hdr does a pretty good conversation does not looked washed out to me.

It also had much better music management system now and another icon called movies which allows you to stream movies even ones not in your collection.

My collection can do with an update to support tv series but you can use zappiti and yadis for cover art.

Thanks

Thank you, a5ian300zx. It seems the GUI on playback has been revamped since Sledgehamma's review. See this picture with very poor video information from 2016:
LINK
As you can see, there is no information about current file name, video/audio codec, bitrate...

Other questions:
* Does this box have a scalable zoom in steps like the 'good old' TVIX 6500A player?
* Is direct time seek available?

FYI, I've got in touch with Dune Europe and I have bad and good news. The bad: there won't be an Android firmware for these devices, despite the dual boot setting. The good: they are working on a new firmware, currently in beta stage, which will be available in few weeks.

Thanks for any input.

Hi hiddenuser,

I have listed all the information provided when you press the "info" button on a media file while in playback above one is for any video and the other for music files ie mp3, flac, wav etc.

Yes I believe it does support zoom levels. It also starts off any media file where you left off and you have a recents menu now like the old tvix 6500 (I use to own one) you can also jot in a time and it will take you to that position and if you press the number keys in takes you into percentages of the media file ie 5% into the media file etc.

The good thing about dunes is that they bring new features and fix bugs even when the product goes end of life (also have hdi prime 3)

It is good news about the firmware and was known about pulling out of Android dual boot.

The picture quality I'd way better than tvix 6500 a lot more stable.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the pictures! It looks good

Do you remember the old GUI of TVIX 6500A? Does the Dune have a mini time counter on the left corner of the screen showing elapsed or remaining time like the good old TVIX?

I have been told there is no 3D MVC MKV support. Is that true with last beta firmware?

Is DVD menu support available besides of full BR menu support?

Can this device play DivX files without changing headers with the 'XviD' FourCC?

Finally, I know there is no torrent support on modern Dunes, but there is 'unofficial' suport for that. The big community at HDTV.ru wrote a tutorial to install Transmission or Deluge on this device. The sad news is this tutorial is in russian. Anyone could translate it to english? This tutorial is HERE. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

On the screenshot it's shows the remaining time and elapsed time.

3d mkv is a no on the dune.

I don't watch dvds so. Can't comment on the menu and the solo 4k plays less avi formats than previous gens as I guess users are converting to mkv or TS format more.

Do not know about Torrents as I do not use them.

Thanks

I already know, I meant a permanent tiny playback time counter on the upper left corner (a small rectangle with this information). This feature was available on TVIX by pressing twice the Info button. Don't you remember?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

i have tried reboot, i have removed it from the AV receiver and plugged it another tv directly, tried to locate it in the network, i have removed the local disk. but unfortunately none of that worked. any ideas would be grateful

You can download a 'patch' that enables the Dune to play DivX. It works perfectly. I tried to link it but I don't have enough posts yet to do that. Try searching "dune_service_enable_divx".

For long videos, my Dune has excellent 'time seek' abilities - all four arrow buttons (10 secs, 1 min) and the P+- buttons (10 mins). Also, the number buttons take you to a 'percentage' and the 'info' button tells you how much has played and how much is left. All very good, but none of this works for shorter videos. Is that the case for other users? Can it be fixed so that these excellent functions work for all lengths of video? Thank you.
