guys - hi, the thread is moving pretty quick, can one of you please provide a 'current state of affairs' executive summary of the device as it sits today?

basically known issues vs what is working well. I'd like to update from my Mede8ter but concerned about some of the bugs I was reading about over the last few weeks. thanks for your help!

Since Dune HD has changed its distribution policy toward our store, we have decided to offer Zappiti v2 licence to customers of our shop. We are currently evaluating the possibilities to allow users who have acquired a Dune HD from another store to acquire a license for Zappiti v2.

I'll keep you informed when this will be available.

Zappiti Team"

great business decision : punish the consumers because of your relationship with your supplier

good decision would have been : restart zappiti for dune 4K with an updated 3.0, offer it for anyone buying the solo from them, keep 2.8 free for anyone else.

This is current list of test results as of latest firmware. I will keep up to date as new firmware/fixes are addressed.

I have over 31 servers in the wild running Zappiti 2.8.15. I just hope they allow existing users to continue using it without hassle. If not, I will be a busy boy for sure.. And not in good way. What a cluster F*&K!

great, thank you. How quickly are their developers working on fixes / new releases? I've got a pile of some network media devices that never full got up to speed and were later abandoned. I thought the Me8eter folks have been great with updates over the years.

Yup, that would be my concern if they decide to shut off current users. The fact that you even have to log in is a joke.

Based on HDIs pedigree in this space, I am very confident major issues will be resolved. As it stands, other members please chime in, the Solo has no show stopping bugs that would prevent Blu-ray playback with content properly prepared. If in doubt or not confident in HDI then please wait to see how it plays out. I have three Solos in my home and all perform well with my content. I am thrilled with the image quality and performance. I am sure others will chime in. I am pretty confident that most are happy with their units.

FYI: Some members have been having issues with DVDs playing correctly. I only have 2 DVDs and they play correctly. If you have quite a few DVDs you may want to hold off until we get updated firmware which address the DVD playback issues others have experienced.

Any reason the same existing account can not be used with multiple users in different locations?

Never tried. Wonder if you try to log in when you are already logged in on another PC with the same username it would kick the other person out? However, I get the impression that when you log in that is the only time Zappiti ever "phones home" so I cant see a reason why it wouldn't work. I think I have Zappiti set up on my Laptop (as backup) and PC, both under the same username.

Cheers,
Damian

Agreed, especially since it is not like we are getting updates. Development of 2.8.15 is dead, it should be left for free use. Obviously Zappiti sees different, and probably figures it is their way of trying to lock in a user to eventually buy in to their media player line.

Damian

They should charge a fee and call it a day. Money usually solves most issues, at least in my business. Time, money and manhours can solve any problem!

they certainly have a dilemna, in one end they feel that they could monetize an old deprecated software, in the other hand this could give a positive argument to dune which is both their supplier (but relationship with them seems "a bit complicated" right now) and their competitor against their own zappiti 4K... Any decision will make zappiti long time users unhappy anyway.

ask you to pay for something that was free for ages and still free 1 week ago, isn't a good solution IMO, even worse when there are alternatives. But they already did it in the past, and it worked, so why not doing it again as long as they have people to pay for it...

From what I have read their player is not even close to the Dunes in playback feature set. Many unresolved bugs, unfulfilled promises and "forum dictatorship" have tarnished their reputation. Is this true?

Dude I am so jealous of that RS600
The Solo has been performing spectacularly for my setup. Dune was great about updating the previous gen. I am confident they will do the same for this generation as well.

I here ya, But my clients would gladly pay to not have to pay me to install and setup a new frontend and all the hassle associated with it. Hell, I would even pay for them. Most of my servers are in the $5000.00 range and these clients are wealthy professionals.

Seems like Sigma is sticking with this chipset. A lot of the small bugs like 3d subitles are working on other units that run the same chipset and the next sdk update from sigma is supposed to fix aac/pcm output of multichannel over 5.1. Hopefully not to much regression on the new sdk. So unlike the past 2 generations from sigma seems they are trying hard with this chipset so I am sure dune will bring this fixes into their own firmware as well.

Their Zappiti 4K was a mess, I honestly have not plugged it back in since a long time ago. The forum was horrible.

I would have no issues paying a small fee to unlock 2.8.15 so it never needs to phone home again.

You'll be happy you did. I got rid of my mede8er x600 and ordered this. Been a customer if Dune for years. The Dune GUI is easier to navigate than Mede8er as well.

Stop it right now before someone reads this and actually believes you and orders one just for that reason lol

You know there is one non registered person reading it going is he for real.

Also are you eventually going to put up a review of the Solo on your website?

If someone buys it expecting to get a bag of C then they deserve what they got lol.

Would like to eventually get a review up, bit of a struggle with time and certain aspects I cannot test (i.e. 4K, newer HD Audio formats). Ideally I would like to wait until Android is implemented since I think that could open up a lot of doors, but not sure how far out that is.

Mediacentermaster is another scraper that has quite solid support from the dev. At one time he was looking into DuneHD support. If enough people follow up on his forums, maybe we can get support rolling again.

Looky here!

Would like to eventually get a review up, bit of a struggle with time and certain aspects I cannot test (i.e. 4K, newer HD Audio formats). Ideally I would like to wait until Android is implemented since I think that could open up a lot of doors, but not sure how far out that is.
Dont wait on the android its not worth it. Sigma is not in it for the android market its just there because they can. From what I can gather I have not played with it on the new hardware yet. But when they had android 2.2 running on hardware of the tv102/popbox only thing you could do was watch a video on there player but with no ff/rr/subtitles/hdaudio judging by dunes android page here http://dune-hd.com/firmware/android/ seems like its the same exact setup just android 4.4 on newer hardware. Not to mention you really want android 5.0+ as it gives better access with mediacodec to access low level hardware.
