The problems seem to be occurring with the HDR on Netflix. But maybe it's not affecting most people?
Also, what app are you guys using to play locally stored 4k content via the Roku? Is Plex able to stream 4K content from a media server over gigabit connection? I would love to use some of the 4k demos and trailers that I've acquired over the last few months.

Yes!

With the Roku using the Plex app I can stream 4K videos for playback in on the TV, including those encoded in HDR. FWIW, I'm using a NAS based Plex server, a Roku Ultra, and a Vizio P65 TV on a gigabit home network.

On the Roku Plex app make sure that "Quality" is set to "Original", "Direct Play" is checked, and "Allow Direct Stream" is checked. You want Plex to simply stream the original media and not transcode on the fly like Plex likes to do.

The Roku Media Player also works just fine for 4K HDR material. Serviio is my DLNA server, but most others should work as well. Just be advised that some DLNA servers only have a single generic profile for Roku players, and may force transcoding when none is necessary.

I started getting the "display resolution has changed" message when starting up the Roku Ultra again which had been gone for a while. Don't if it's due to the latest Roku update or my Vizio TV update since I updated both on the same day? Anyone else not using a Vizio TV seeing this message again?

I knock on wood haven't seen it in a while. but i'm not convinced its the Roku alone i think it's how it plays with all the other components.

I don't use my Roku for local 4K content. I use either my Samsung UHD BD player or my Popcorn Hour VTEN.

It's the Netflex menu settings; but you can also do it by going to Roku settings and restart the Roku.

I think the Roku needs a restart every time it comes out of sleep. If I start using it right out of sleep mode there is always some anomalies. But if I restart the Roku after it sleeps I have trouble free viewing.
I almost wish it would power down as opposed to sleep.

When I want to reload Netflix I find that its safer to go to Settings->Get Help->Exit Netflix; when you start Netflix again it loads it from scratch. "Exit Netflix" from the menu bar just exits to the top, leaving Netflix loaded for instant start. (Seems like on my Roku Premiere hitting "Settings" on the menu bar brings you to "Get Help" without the intervening menu. It's the same on my TV's app so maybe that intervening menu has been eliminated; just use Settings->Exit Netflix).

I've had bad experiences with Reload Netflix on some devices so I avoid it.

Roku 4 Ultra won't pass HDR, no Netflix at all.

I'm a new owner of a 4 Ultra and I'm having a few problems as I will describe below. Firmware 7.5.1, build 4075.

The Roku Ultra is connected via a 3' Amazon Basics 18 Gbps HDMI cable to a brand new Denon X3300w receiver. All ports support HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2. Networking is via wired gigabit Ethernet, speed-tested at roughly 90-100 Mbps using the Speedtest app in the Roku. The output is connected to a 2016 Vizio P65-C1 display on HDMI-1. ARC is enabled and working, and the AVR is set up in a 5.1.2 configuration. Also feeding the AVR are a Verizon FiOS cable box and a Windows 7 HTPC running Kodi.

The Roku Ultra was set up as 4k+HDR and the menu looks OK. Scrolling within the menus is fine. I only have two active accounts, Netflix and Amazon. I own the Roku exclusively for Amazon Prime, since the Vizio's CAST system doesn't support Amazon.

The main problem: Netflix simply will not display anything beyond the splash screen when the Roku-4 display is set for HDR. Several reboots, a factory reset, dropping and re-adding Netflix does not solve the problem. If I downgrade to 4k/60 without HDR on the Roku it will play 4k content and look OK, if not a little soft. All audio is passed through in stereo, not DD+ , DTS or any other format.

Amazon will play 4k videos with the display set to 4k/60+HDR, however no HDR content is passed, just 4k and I don't believe the refresh is set to 60 since there are motion issues (anything moving left-right is not smooth). I have tried numerous Amazon titles that are all supposed to be HDR but the HDR flag never appears. I have tried Specter (James Bond), Sicaro, Interstellar, the TV series Patriot and Fleabag. When attempting to play Mozart in the Jungle there is no video at all, but the audio does play ("stereo" only). When playing S1/E1 of Man in the High Castle the audio was out of sync slightly.

Youtube 4k+HDR videos play in 4k but without HDR, and again, no DD+ or DTS audio, just "stereo."

Plex displays locally-stored videos OK, but again, won't pass DD+ or DTS audio natively, and upreses them to 4k.

Using the CAST process on my Vizio TV, Netflix displays 4k+HDR content properly. Marco Polo in Dolby Vision looks gorgeous. I believe there is a serious problem with the Roku but I seem to hear other people having similar issues here and on a few other forums. I'm still within the return window from Best Buy and would like to know if it's just user error or if this thing is just half-baked and should be returned. I have a fortune invested in equipment specifically designed for HDR and I want to start using it for that purpose. Any help appreciated. Please and thanks.

First I'd suggest connecting the Roku directly to your P65, to verify you don't have a faulty Roku or 18 Gbps cable. I'm inclined to think it is an AVR issue. Casting works because it goes directly to the P65 and audio then passes out to your AVR. The Ultra works well when directly connected to HDR TVs or displays. Hopefully someone can help you with configuring your Denon X3300w for HDR pass thru.

The Vizio's HDMI Subsampling also needs to be turned on for whatever HDMI input is being used. In regards to HDR Youtube, from what I've read, that only currently works on Chromecast Ultra (and not either the Roku or the Vizio's built-in casting due to not supporting that specific codec).

I deleted my message... wasn't the update. I switched out a 3' cert cable for a 6' cert cable just prior to the update and that must've been a bad cable. Reinstalled the 3 and everything is good gain.

Man the Netflix is buggy. Now I'm getting the info screen displayed while I'm watching a show. And if you hit exit it backs you out of the whole program so I can't get rid of the info screen. I did try and find the settings on the Netflix app but I didnt see anything that said reload or reboot so I just hit exit but not the sign out. I didnt try restarting the entire device as I decided to cast instead of using the ROKU P+. As a side note Netflix's new show that dropped last night The OA is in DV or HDR. Pretty cool. Trippy show too.

@W2IRT I was having all sorts of issues with my Vizio M display when I first got my ROKU. I have a Denon X1200 and was running the Amazon cables. Even thought I got the HDR set up fine when choosing my display type but when trying to play Amazon HDR content I would get drop outs to no signal, green screen, occasional snow screen and finally a message from roku saying my display does not support HDCP 2.2 and check my cables, etc. I played cable roulette with my Amazon cables and I finally found two that worked ok but still gave me fits. I would have to switch HDMI inputs on the Vizo and toggle back and I'd finally get a picture. I decided to buy the certified monoprice 18gb cables (should have from the start) and have only had maybe 2 hiccups when trying to watch Amazon HDR programming. So I'm thinking it could be the amazon cables. I'm on the latest Vizio Beta and last night I started Amazon HDR with no issues. Also make sure you are selecting the UHD Amazon shows as opposed to the regular ones. I think the menu defaults to the HD shows.

I had similar issue whether connected to my KS8000 TV directly or Denon 910W receiver. I reconnect my older Roku 3 and it works fine so I end up returning to Roku for repairs or replacement. Its been little over a week and I have not heard from them so will contact them next week. You might try to reset and see if any result?

Yes, my Roku 3 and Roku stick both work fine through the Denon, it's only the Ultra with a problem.

After updating to 7.5.1 here is my issues"

1. No CEC volume control via Roku remote. Release notes says that was an added function. https://blog.roku.com/roku-os-7-5-release-notes/

2. color gamut on amazon and netflix is off. getting pink splotches where whites are supposed to be. Faces are over saturated. After comparing to my TV's native apps it is very noticeable.

Tried connecting directly to tv, removing the av receiver still same issues.

I contacted Roku about the CEC volume control issue, chat professional had no idea what i was talking about.

The CEC volume control is hit or miss. It doesn't work on either my Ultra or 4, both connected to Yamaha AVRs. The power on and remote switching was there with earlier firmware versions, so that's not anything new and does work for me. But the volume control doesn't work far more than it works for some reason. Since different manufacturers have their own variations of CEC control, it's tough for a 3rd party to make them work with all. My Panasonic TV will control my Yamaha AVR, but only if the AVR is powered on first. If you use the TV to CEC power on the AVR (which does work), then the volume control via the TV remote doesn't.

Where is the control for this? Looked everywhere in the picture menu and can't find it. Good to know about HDR on Youtube; I don't honestly care, I'm just looking for test sources for 4k+HDR so I can verify what's working and what isn't. I have yet to achieve HDR or digital 5.1 sound out of my Roku 4 Ultra.

That's how I currently have it set up, using the Ultra's optical connection to my Denon. I'd prefer to connect the Roku directly to the Denon. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
Yes, I get the "No Signal" from the Vizio all the time with the Roku connected via the Denon X6200W. I have a lot of issues with the Denon including the latest Oppo UHD player where I have to connect the Oppo video directly to the TV and the audio only to the Denon.

Most 5040 owners have found that setting to HDR1, using Bright Cinema, and opening the manual iris all the way to 0 will provide the best picture for HDR as far as brightness goes.

But then again if you follow the 5040 owner thread it seems like most owners seem to prefer the SDR to HDR because of this issue. You should check out that thread. There are a couple of ways to enhance the picture by stripping the HDR but keeping the BT2020 wide color gamut for SDR, but you either need an Oppo 203 4k player (which I'm getting) or an HD Fury.

SH: Thanks for the advice on the settings. I've been following the 5040 owner thread but there are so many messages I was unsuccessful with my search to find anything relevant to my problem with HDR brightness. I do find 4K SDR with the 5040 to provide a great picture. However I had read and been told by my local Home Theater guru that HDR is the more significant video upgrade vs 4K alone so was anxious to see what the fuss was about. So far (probably because of the settings I have on the 5040) HDR has been unwatchable and a disappointment. I will try your settings out sometime this weekend and see how it goes.

Remember the Roku3 (circa 2014) & Stick aren't doing HDR so of course it works! The problem is the latest tech isn't playing well with your gear as currently configured. I'd make sure to use certified 18 Gbps cables and double check the AVR firmware & settings. Have you all checked the Denon & Sony forums?

Well this is weird. With my Ultra I turned the HDMI-CEC off. Then it started to work. But only when viewing other devices. When I am using the Roku TV input, the volume control on the Roku remote won't control anything. I switch to a different input and it works. I turn HDMi-CEC on in the Ultra and it stops working. I turn it off then it starts working. This makes no sense.
