Roku 4 Ultra won't pass HDR, no Netflix at all.
I'm a new owner of a 4 Ultra and I'm having a few problems as I will describe below. Firmware 7.5.1, build 4075.
The Roku Ultra is connected via a 3' Amazon Basics 18 Gbps HDMI cable to a brand new Denon X3300w receiver. All ports support HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2. Networking is via wired gigabit Ethernet, speed-tested at roughly 90-100 Mbps using the Speedtest app in the Roku. The output is connected to a 2016 Vizio P65-C1 display on HDMI-1. ARC is enabled and working, and the AVR is set up in a 5.1.2 configuration. Also feeding the AVR are a Verizon FiOS cable box and a Windows 7 HTPC running Kodi.
The Roku Ultra was set up as 4k+HDR and the menu looks OK. Scrolling within the menus is fine. I only have two active accounts, Netflix and Amazon. I own the Roku exclusively for Amazon Prime, since the Vizio's CAST system doesn't support Amazon.
The main problem: Netflix simply will not display anything beyond the splash screen when the Roku-4 display is set for HDR. Several reboots, a factory reset, dropping and re-adding Netflix does not solve the problem. If I downgrade to 4k/60 without HDR on the Roku it will play 4k content and look OK, if not a little soft. All audio is passed through in stereo, not DD+ , DTS or any other format.
Amazon will play 4k videos with the display set to 4k/60+HDR, however no HDR content is passed, just 4k and I don't believe the refresh is set to 60 since there are motion issues (anything moving left-right is not smooth). I have tried numerous Amazon titles that are all supposed to be HDR but the HDR flag never appears. I have tried Specter (James Bond), Sicaro, Interstellar, the TV series Patriot and Fleabag. When attempting to play Mozart in the Jungle there is no video at all, but the audio does play ("stereo" only). When playing S1/E1 of Man in the High Castle the audio was out of sync slightly.
Youtube 4k+HDR videos play in 4k but without HDR, and again, no DD+ or DTS audio, just "stereo."
Plex displays locally-stored videos OK, but again, won't pass DD+ or DTS audio natively, and upreses them to 4k.
Using the CAST process on my Vizio TV, Netflix displays 4k+HDR content properly. Marco Polo in Dolby Vision looks gorgeous. I believe there is a serious problem with the Roku but I seem to hear other people having similar issues here and on a few other forums. I'm still within the return window from Best Buy and would like to know if it's just user error or if this thing is just half-baked and should be returned. I have a fortune invested in equipment specifically designed for HDR and I want to start using it for that purpose. Any help appreciated. Please and thanks.
