Can't wait for the review. I have always liked their software. If the image quality is on par with the Dune and there are no major bugs I might consider purchasing one. But with no US distributors, I will definitely wait for the review.

Currently I have a Dune Solo 4K which is not HDR capable. Can this be Zappiti player play Blu-ray rips with full menus like the Dune?

Didn't think so - just checking!

So if I play a full blu-ray rip (either ISO or BDMV) I will get BD_Lite support? So I need to know which file to play?

Also looking forward to your review!

For obfuscated titles, yes you need to know that. Otherwise it works pretty much the same as other BD lite implementations as it plays the longest/biggest file/playlist.

Haha, no I'm not that fast. I'm also waiting for Zappiti to fix some issues like subtitles and give me some feedback for other things that I've mentioned.

I'M interested in the Zappiti duo 4k for watching my movie collection. Will wait to hear more from your review. Is there a difference from U.S. version from Europe's? I live in the USA.So far no dealers in the states.

Hi there @Sledgehamma . Please have a look at my review/thread of Zidoo's X9S here... same Realtek SoC. I'm hoping Zappiti maybe, just maybe has a more polished features/functionality set. Realtek SoC's have been mostly turnkey solutions, so variances (at least in the past) between manufacturers have been slight... but, maybe it's different w/this chip.

@Sledgehamma

Do you know if 4k/HDR playback is supported from the Netflix app with the new HDR players?

I can't say for sure, but to my knowledge this is only possible on devices which are approved by Netflix. So that would be a "no" for the Zappiti.

Nfs?

It appears the new Zappitis rely on Samba. Bit of a surprise that they don't include at least NFS. Could be a deal-breaker for me as I've had issues in the past with stuttering when using Samba. Can't even imagine what would happen with 4K content...

Looking forward to your review, @Sledgehamma . Currently using a Mede8er MED600 which I'm very happy with but keeping my future options open.

Y

PS, would be great if they posted a manual online...

Believe me, I was stunned as well that there is no NFS. I believe its because of their Jukebox and all other pograms. SMB is the common ground for that.
I tested 160mbit 2160p content and it went fine though. No stutter with h264 or 265 at that bitrate. Will test higher bitrates as well.

Been looking at this again, want to buy but no sellers in USA. yet. Does it matter if i buy direct from Zappitti & if problems occur someone might sell in the states, would they have problems repairing it since i didn't buy from them?Sometimes when you buy from amazon they get a little funky sometimes.

Does anyone else have trouble using the Zappiti transfer between player and PC? I can see the player in win 10 explorer but trying to open it results in nothing, it`s just empty.
I have transfer installed on both player & PC.

Edit: Nevermind, got it to work by typing in ip address directly in win explorer and now the disk is visible.

Hit my first real problem.

The media center was working fine but suddenly for some reason I now cannot access one of my movie folders on one networked hard drive. I have a TV shows folder on the same drive and that is accessible fine. I can play the movies from the folder via Explorer but when I try from Media Center I get a message saying "unable to access the file". So it is not a Windows sharing problem.

The other drives and folders, which are shared in the same way, still work fine.

Any ideas?

I am looking to pull the plug on buying one of these units. My other question would be . does this zappiti 4k duo detect cinavia? Also what internal hard drives are recommended?

And also I hope that this supports Dolby Vision. I hope the OP includes this on his planned review. Would be nice to have both HDR10 and DV support on my next media player.

With ethernet it works both with internal & external local drives. More info on the transfer function here: http://zappiti.com/zappiti_player_4k_transfer.html

I emailed support and asked about this and they said that at this point, they couldn`t tell if DV support will/can be added later. But they didn`t rule it out so i guess there is hope.

I use a Western Digital Caviar disk in mine and it works well. This is the same HDDs they sell in their own store.

Wouldn't that require a separate chip for DV to work? Or maybe this requirement is only for the TV...

No word on DV, yet.

Yes, DV requires hardware that supports it. So DV would have to be implemented in the SoC in order to activate it via later FW update. This is exactly the case for the Oppo 203 and the Sony ZD9.

Review should be finished by next week. Will finish it in German this week, will revise it beginning of next week and then translate it.
