Hello. I currently have a DSM-520 with a USB hard drive directly connected to the unit. I would prefer use a network drive so I could easily assess the hard drive connect without directly connecting it to my laptop. I understand the new Apple Airport Extreme can be used to convert a USB drive to a network accessible drive. Does anyone know if the DSM-520 could access content off a drive connected to my network through the Airport Extreme? If it is possible, do I need any special server software to be installed on the drive? My desire is to be able to access the content without the computer being on.

Thanks for your help.

Would appreciate if anyone has had experience using the new Apple Airport Extreme for NAS. Also, does anyone use other NAS with the DSM-520? Does this storage just need to be connected to my network for the DSM-520 to access it or do I need additional software on the drive?

Thanks for your help.

I use a DSM520 with a uPNP server (La Cie EDMini) but AFAIK
the Apple Airport Extreme did'nt have uPNP functionnality
so I doubt It could work.

I use an Infrant XNAS with the DSM-520. It works well. Most of the limitations are on the DLink side.
