"They're here....

Unfortunately, the shipment arrived a little later than we hoped, but we'll do our best to get as many as we can out today.

Please refrain from calling the office for status update, it will just slow the staff down."

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
Looks like I'm taking a half day this week when it arrives(or go in really early)

Do you mean that the 4100/5100 firmware does not yet support the tuner?

I've got the 4000PA so the firmware for this unit is probably on a different track. Eric at Dvico says that the tuner is supported in the 2.1.5 firmware (still in beta on the DVICO ftp site). My 4000PA came with 2.1.4A -- somewhere between beta and production code perhaps. Seems stable so far but I'm anxious to try out the tuner.

Some folks in Europe are trying out the DVB version of the tuner and it seems to work fine, with some limitations:

1) cannot pause live TV
2) cannot play a file while recording in the background (no multi-tasking)
3) no chasing playback

These are standard DVR/DVDR features and hopefully it can be added to the TVIX boxes in later firmware revisions. It might also be a limitation of the sigma chip, in which case no dice.

Acteng--

The Mx100 firmware is different from the Mx000 firmware. The latter is up to version 2.1.x, as you noted, and supports the tuner on those units (but only in beta for U.S. ATSC) with the limitations that you noted. The former is in version 1.0.x and does not support the tuner yet at all.

AN OTA DVR WITHOUT DVR FUNCTIONS....OUCH, THAT HURTS.

You're welcome. I think that you'll enjoy the M4100 a lot. I hope that we don't have a long wait for the tuner sw to come out of the oven.

I really like the idea of the 4100, and would like to get one, I just want a little more info.

Is there someplace where I can download the manual to it? I want to see what my options for hard drives (ide and sata?).

I would like to see some pictures of the back of the unit. I to see what all the different connectors are on the back (does it have an HDMI or DVI connector in the back?).

I'm not sure its needed, but can it connect to a media server like TVersity to transcode those file formats that are not native to the 4100.

I assume you can fastforward thru any media file right?

Does it have playlists and does it remember where you leave off on a playlist?

Is this product still beta. I mean are there still known bugs that haven't been fixed and promised features that haven't been implemented?

Is this product worth $320?

havic,
there is a download link for the manual somewhere in this thread, or at least there was-I know I went to the link and printed off a copy of the manual. To answer a couple of your questions:

1) HDMI connection
2) SATA drive only

1. Evidently not yet. The options are: proprietary tuner (see 2.), which is not yet supported, and vanilla 3.5" SATA HDD.

2. Look at the photo here and imagine the DVI connector replaced with an HDMI one. That's what the M4100 looks like.

3. UPnP is not supported and NFS sharing, such as DViCo's Netshare 1.08, does not do transcoding.

4. Define "any". It does FF for most files in my experience. The main exception is that transport stream files with commercials chopped out (e.g., with H2M) get the FF/REW functions confused. But if you use a tool such as VideoReDo's "quickfix", TViX can FF/REW the edited TS.

5. Yes, see the discussion of playlists for the Mx000 models for details.

6. Arguably, yes, it's still a "beta", since the final manual isn't on the website, the tuner isn't supported, etc. Only "bleeding edge" consumers need apply.

7. Define "worth".

I ordered mine just a few days ago also with accelerated shipping. I assume they will be sending out tracking numbers in the same order as people ordered the unit. The accelerated shipping only applies to how fast you get the unit once it is shipped, not where you stand in the shipping order. But hopefully we will be getting our tracking numbers shortly!

I also imagine that if you ordered a hard drive with the unit there is a bit of a delay since DC has to actually install the drive for you.

sorry, I was wrong, the audio is encoded in ac3 which mp4 doesn't seem to support.

I used Super (C) to do a stream copy to the .avi container but then nothing seems to play it. I guess I'll have to wait until later this week when I get my 4100!

I really hope the Super (C) stream copy works because it only took about 2 minutes to demux and remux on my 3 year old laptop. If not I'll have to try to do it manually.

I have also tried Super(C), with the same results as you. Not playable at all.
Have split the files and remuxed them using virtualdub (or something like that), files are playable, but many with the audio out of sync.

More research when the 4100 arrive.
