Video Redo is a must have program in my opinion. I used it to edit both SD and HD files. Simple and straightforward, and it often fixes corrupted files (some files are too messed up to fix I think...). It amazes me how many HDTV captures need to have frames resynchronized.

I have a pre-production M4100. It plays H.264 HDTV TS files (my test suite so far includes only 1280x720p and 1440x1088i resolutions) and outputs on HDMI at least up to 1920x1200@60Hz with the Auto EDID setting to my Samsung 244T monitor.

Edit: Oh, yeah, I forgot to add: It also browses folders while continuing to play audio files.

I did not know there were any h.264 HDTV being broadcast in the USA?

Given that a person lives in the USA, when do you think h.264 sources (OTA, QAM, DVDs ect.) will become common in the USA?

There seems to be a lot of attention being paid to h.264 but very little of anything in the USA is h.264....yet that is.

Just did a little reading and found out DirectTV and Dishnetwork use h.264...hmmm I use cable and OTA and at the moment there is no reason to move to satellite but who knows what the near term future holds....

Interesting.

I can provide you with some high bitrate H.264 samples if you want. PM me if you're interested in testing them.

Kid2--

You're correct about paucity of H.264 sources in the U.S. My current samples came from an AVS Forum member who has satellite feeds.

Here you can see the bitrates our (Germany) main pay TV sender is broadcasting h264 in. Would be great if someone could test such bitrates with the M4100.

That is essentially the same BR as the satellite feeds I've tested.

Let me guess: BBC HD?

And it worked fluidly without any stuttering/artifacts?

So does the M4100 use the M4000/M5000 firmware as some have speculated?

Nope.

But the UI bears an obvious resemblance.

So I have to ask, do you like it? What is your over all opinion of the device. I am going insain waitting for the stupid thing. Does not really matter what you say, I will still buy one. But if you say there are issues it will at least calm me down a little. If you love it, it will just make me more excited, which seems impossible.

I think that it's a definite improvement over the 4000/5000. Aside from playing better through H2M cuts, having HDMI output, and permitting file browsing while playing music, it has a variable zoom mode that allows you to choose precisely the over/under scan you wish and a scroll mode to center the picture frame. There are some issues, of course--that's to be expected in a pre-production unit--but it already does essentially everything that the previous generation does at least as well as they do while providing the new features mentioned. I think that those who need an H.264 player will be very pleased with it.

TPeterson, can you confirm whether it has any aspect ratio control functions for video files which are lacking proper aspect ratio flags?

I am not familiar with the older 4000/5000 line so I don't know if this was already present in the older units.

I too am anxiously awaiting my pre-ordered unit

Any chance you could try a 1440x1088p h264 sample? If that plays then we are doing very well. I'll see if I can find a full 1080p demo to try

I do not think there is any NMP that will play seperate video files (regardless of the file type) back to back without an interuption, unless you are talking about vobs, which are not ts files and are not HD.

I am talking about one HD movie consist of many (over 50) small .ts files, If we play this many files using MyHD or Theatertek, it will be automatically joined together when we hit the first file and play, we watch the movie as a whole complete movie without any interruption like we play DVD.

All of the Mediaboxes currently available in the market can do this but with 1-2 seconds black out interruption between files, that is very annoying.

We expect the newer model/chip will solve this problem, but it seems that is not the case. Unless I am wrong about this.

It does not have AR adjustment, aside from zoom to full screen. Maybe in subsequent firmware...?

Sure, I'll try one if you can dig it up. I fully expect that it will work, given that the other HD H.264 files and a 1920x1080p MPEG-2 file all play well.

This is good stuff.... at least we have a person here with a pre-production model.
I'm excited about this and look forward to many new posts here about it.

Too bad the 5100 is a little behind the 4100 in delivery.

Not yet. (Current firmware does not support the tuner module--did I say that this is "pre production"? )

Very good, and they pop up noticeably faster than on the 5000/4000, although still not at PC-like speed.

I think that it will be the same. With the current firmware there are some ISO files that (mysteriously) do not play at all. DViCo is investigating this. Those that do, play as on the 4/5000.

Probably it doesn't play the file.
Otherwise, TPeterson would've already replied.
