Does anyone know how to turn off subtiles. I have some mkv's that start automatically with subtiles turned on. I have tried using the left, right, up ,down arrows in subtile mode but it just moves or makes the subtitles larger. Sometimes I can get to change to a different language but can never get to select none.

thanks

I believe that's a known bug in the .33 firmware.

nl domain? Is this in Netherlands?

Overall site looks suspicious. Claimed that delivery made from USA. Why in nl domain then...
Priced at 419$ Is it US Dollars?
Couldn't find site rating on resellerratings.com
pricegrabber search didn't give good results...
I don't think I will give my credit card info to such kind of 'authorized reseller'

Had anybody ordered from this site and got unit without any surprises?

I have a workaround for this

Preparation:
1) On your PC, create a text file with the following text as shown here

1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,000
NO SUBTITLES

2) Save the file as NOSUBS.txt

3) Attach the TViX to the PC by whatever method you prefer and copy NOSUBS.txt to the VIDEO folder on the TViX

How to use the fix:
1) Start your video file as normal and you will still see the subtitles

2) BUT if you press TITLE on the remote, you will be asked to select new subtitles.

3) Navigate to NOSUBS.txt and select.

4) Your video will now play with no subtitles!!

NOTE: This is just a temporary fix until Dvico come up with something better. It does not address not being able to scroll backwards through the available options or past the final available subtitle. It has to be done for every video you play because all the fix is is a one-line subtitle which appears for half a second at the beginning of the movie. Blink and you'll miss it!

JVB Digital is a known site here. Bought a couple of SDI DVD players from them several years ago. I didn't have any problems with them.

I seem to recall that they have a US location and an NL location. That may explain the shipment from the US.

JVB is legit, I ordered a region free Panasonic RP-82 from them years ago and even after 2 years had passed I sent them an email asking for some customer support and they were quick to reply and help me out.

Just received my M6500A yesterday. Immediately USB'd about half a dozen .iso, four .mkv and four .avi files onto the internal hard drive in my VIDEO folder. (This was all at work.... no HT here).

Took it home and plugged it in. Set fan for SLOW 2 (next to NORMAL, though NORMAL will not be too loud). Tried ALL my video files (just a few minutes into each one) and had zero issues, EXCEPT the darn unwanted subtitles. So, THANKS for the workaround, Coolstream. I'll make the text file and load it onto the Tvix.

The only time I crashed the M6500A was when I was trying to move past the last subtitle. Managed to hang it up and had to power down.

Using HDMI into an Onkyo 605. Sound and pix are great... even better than OK with the crappy little .avi files.

I like the Tivx and it can only get better!!

Have you tried any HDDVD/Bluray rips yet? They look really good!

I just got my 6500.

On the 4100, trick play with MPEG2 1080i/60 and 720p/60 TS files is borderline.

It approximatively works with high bitrate TS files (like CBS files), and not at all with low bitrate ones (like Fox files).

I was hoping that the faster processor would fix that on the 6500, but even with the last firmware, it's a total failure.

Going back 15 seconds actually goes forward several minutes, and the direct GOTO function scans to anywhere but the indicated time-stamp.

If you want to watch US TS files, the 6500 in its actual state is totally un-usable. There is just no way to reliably seek into a file, you have to watch it from the beginning and let it run.

Part One: I FTP'd the No Subtitles text file over to my Video directory. Sure enough, your fix works like a charm. Many thanks because I find subtitles annoying and can't always tell if what I am downloading has "full time" subs or not. I'm sure Dvico will get around to fixing their problem(s).

Part Two: I did fetch one movie, (can't remember which one) that is an mkv file and it was described as being ripped from a blue ray. I know it's about 8 GB compressed in mkv. It does look nice. I've only had time to look at 1/2 of an entire movie thus far. Perhaps on President's Day.......

Robert, I don't agree that "watching from the beginning and let it run" is "totally unusable". But it is far from perfect. (You did read that I said the firmware is "not finished", didn't you?)

DViCo acknowledges the TS trick-play mode problems and tells me that the TS-player code is scheduled for a complete rewrite in the next few months. I'm sure that will greatly improve it on the M-6500A and I'm hopeful that it will also help the earlier TViX models.

Just kidding... I know there's a fan. I have HDD in my M6500A and set my fan on SLOW 2. But, honestly, when I'm watching video or listening to music, I can't hear the fan. In fact, I'm probably going to put it back on NORMAL and try it for a while.

But then again, I'm old, crochety and probably hard of hearing.

Tonight I'm gonna transport some audio (mp3's) and a movie home on my 8 GB USB flash drive and try sticking it in one of the USB ports and see if I can copy the content over to the M6500A. Play and learn...that's me.

Even if you are not 'using' an internal HDrive you should put one in the unit (I'm using an old IDE drive I had kicking around ). Otherwise the 6500 has an issue with overheating - the hardrive forces the airflow over the motherboard.

I know why I hate fans in consumer devices. They just don't belong there. Dvico, please get rid of that fan in your next device!!

Maybe it does. But that HDD at 7200rpm is really noisy. Probably why I can't hear the fan.

Of course, if I just put in a dead HDD to fill the space, then I wouldn't hear the HDD. But, alas, I wouldn't have a place to store my content as I am not NAS equipped. Just spoofin' ya!

Do some/all USB flash drives have a 4.0 GB file size limit or is it Windows XP? I'm trying to copy a 4.03GB ISO file to a flash drive. Won't do it. But it will copy a 3.7GB ISO file.

Fat32 max file size is 4Gb - I suspect that is your answer

It looks as though the required dimensions for wallpaper are different for the 6500 (1280X720) vs the 5100 (720X480)

I own both. So the 6500A does not regcognize the wallpaer I've already set up for my 5100 (days of work)

First, I think this is a design flaw - given several customers will upgrade to the 6500a and, like in my case, have a couple of media players

Second, and worse, it appears the 6500a hangs when loading directories that have both icons and the old (720X480) wallpaper. It looks like my only solution has been to get rid of the old wallpapers Not Good!

Has DVICO recognized this problem? Is there a solution? Will there be a fix to handle both?

BTW other than this and the subtitle issue the 6500a has performed very well.

If you used my program to generate the wallpapers, you can very rapidly batch re-render for the new size by using local art and text + Autosave Local art and text renders. Preserves your previous hard work.

I'm hoping that the m6500 eventually is made to recognize a different name for its wallpaper so one can have both sizes of wallpapers on a server which takes care of both types of players.
