I'm in the market for a large flat panel (hopefully 60"+), and the research I've done thus far shows a clear indication that the (now discontinued) Pioneer Kuros are still considered the best in terms of Picture Quality, especially in the black levels.
I was considering getting the highest-end monitor model of the Kuro (especially now that prices have come down), but I'm always a little leery investing in technology that has already been dropped by the manufacturer.
I wanted to wait until after CES to see if any manufacturer would announce anything that was felt by reviewers to be equal or superior to the Kuro displays (perhaps even Pioneer licensing the technology to another manufacturer?). So far, of course, all the news out of CES is all about 3D, an it's overshadowed any discussion or reporting that I could find on displays that actually concentrate on superior picture quality.
Has anyone heard of any reports of 60"+ displays (LED/LCD/plasma) that are the new "go-to" display for hands-down superior PQ? I don't much care for the bells-and-whistles like Widgets and internet and streaming Netflix, but I'd consider a 3D set if the PQ was best-of-breed.
