I can't wait for this years VE shootout scheduled for May 19 & 20th. No better place to see the flagship displays calibrated to perfection, going head-to-head.

ISF Calibrator

Pioneer Kuro BDP-320

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

According to Robert's post @HTS:

Displays in the evaluation:
Plasma models, Panasonic TC-P65VT50, Samsung PN64E8000, LG 60PM9700 LCD/LED models, Panasonic TC-L55WT50, Samsung UN60ES8000, Elite PRO-60X5FD, LG 60LM9600, and possibly Toshiba's new Cinema 55L7200 and Sony's XBR-65HX929.

Plus one or possibly even two surprise displays!

Only reason for having a Shootout this early and having the HX929 and Elite Pro X5FD participating - again - would only make sense if a OLED would be included. In case no OLED would be included such a Shootout would be pretty much meaningless.

Well for those of use looking to purchase a display for less than $8,000, I would disagree.

since the shoot out is set about the same time lg sez they'll release the oleds, it would be nice to have it reviewed by the calibrators just so we can get an idea of how well lg pulled this off.

With the 55" LG OLED being introduced first in Europe at Cannes the same time as the shootout and the Samsung OLED coming out in the fall, i suggest a 2nd shootout in Oct. so we have the most up to date information.

It is quite opposite: not including Sony 65" would be unequivocal confirmation the shootout is hopelessly biased. 65" is the flagship of Sony and its display is not equivalent to the 55" shootouted last year. Comparing to the last year shootout it would do justice to Sony if this time its size would bigger than competitors. Size should not matter to seasoned evaluators so let Sony be bigger this time .

I agree on the 65' HX929 if PQ differs from the HX929 used in last Shootout. In case of Elite Pro; we know all there is to know, no need for redo

Agreed. Two shootouts would be ideal if the first one is done this early. Not everyone is releasing their flagship models at this time.

Having said that I really enjoy the shootouts and relly look forward to the results. Props to all the people who make it a reality.

seen Kevin Miller do some posting, reminds me that the Shootout is about to happen, (this weekend 19 & 20 may).

quote Kevin Miller today 'the VT50 is looking good, but we did discover one issue with it that is a new problem that the VT30 did not have, and that is undefeatable Edge Enhancement. More to come!'

I think this shoot out is way to early. Still have not heard anything about the 2012 Elite line up. You got the Sharp 90" coming in August. Toshiba new ZL2 and 55XS5 Quad HD sets and then, possibly some product samples of the LG 55" OLED, LG 84" 4K and Sony 4K HX955. I thought the shootout was supposed to be in October. This seems way to early in the model year for another shootout.

I agree. I guess it gives a good indication of the early best contenders in time for the Olympics. Possibly, they will have a secondary shootout?

Except for last year the Shootout is held this time of year.

This one is for the flagships currently available. It'll set the benchmark, and help those looking to purchase a display sooner rather than later.

Robert stated there will be second one in the fall, most likely a narrower field.

Also, if display issues are exposed during this weekend (like undefeatable edge enhancement), it will be nice to see if they are addressed by the time the second shootout is held. It will hold the manufacturers feet to the fire, if you will.

see that they added a fourth pro-calibrator, David Mackenzie (hdtvtest.co.uk). Hope that there won't be any mistakes this time around -> ANSI (contrast ratio) XBR HX929 <-

The 929 is a 2011 tv. This is the 2012 shootout, and although the Elite is technically a 2011sey, we all know it's the best LCD on the market and it won the shootout in October. I think the choices in TV's were spot on.

They will alhave one in October? I think the timing of this shootout is perfect. Let's all face it...... By October we are all mostly waiting for the next year lineup to show up.

October is when it should be held every year. Most of the new sets shown in Jan 2012 CES, will be out by then so they all can be there. Then we can see the potential new 2013 panels at CES in January 2013 again.

How could the ELITE be the best LCD on the market with it's crappy undefeatable DNR and the awful Cyan issue???!
