I have been lurking around here and finally joined as a new member. This is my first post.

Here is my dilemma.

I finally decided to upgrade my old 2004 Hitachi 50VX500 (rear projection LCD 720p hdtv).

I bought a 2012 LG 60PM6700.

This is my first plasma tv. I have a 2007 Sharp 42 inch LCD in my bedroom.

I wanted a 1080p 3d flat panel in 55-60 inch range and I thought the LG 60PM6700 plasma would fit the bill.

Well, after setting up the new tv, I really like the picture over the old Hitachi, but the only issue I have is that the screen seems very reflective. I have floor to ceiling corner windows in my apartment.

My questions:
1. Is the reflective screen a normal characteristic of all plasma tvs?
2. Is it something I will get used to over time?
3. I am trying to decide whether to exchange it for the LG 60PM9700 which has a matte screen?
4. Or maybe exchange it for an LED tv instead?
5. Or a different brand plasma?

I don't mind spending a little more on the exchange if necessary.

I would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

Thanks!

My only 2 comments:

1) I think you would have LESS (not none) reflections with a Panny ST50.
2) A pdp will be of value in that room if you watch it from either end (it looks like you may want to view it from the table perhaps as well) and then I think you will be disapointed if you opt for non pdp tech.

Nothing is perfect! I would take the time and try the ST50.

1): Most plasma sets seem fairly reflective. Some, like Panasonic's models with Louvered Filter (ST, GT, VT) do a better job than others - but the filter is designed to combat Overhead lighting more than Side Lights.

2) Perhaps - although usually in the form of "getting used to pulling the drapes when watching tv...."

3) Have not seen the LG9700, but recall reading a favorable review/impression. If it has a nice matte finish, it might be worth consideration: we have an older Panasonic plasma with a matte screen filter, and it worked pretty well in our bright living room. Have a slightly newer 50" there now, and have given some thought to switching them around: the 50" tends to wash out much easier.

4) Alas, many newer LCD panels (LED is a type of LCD) also feature a glossy screen, and so the reflection issue won't be addressed. The generally higher brightness might be an aid. CNet ran an article listing Matte Finish LCD panels, which might be of interest.

5) You could try rummaging through the various owners threads to see whether any panels receive Praise or Condemnation for their performance in Bright Rooms - although there could well be a distinction between a "simple" bright room and one with specific sources of reflection relative to your seating position.

Best of luck with your choice!

Had mine for two weeks. So far I like it a lot. Mine is fairly reflective but not enough for me to take it back. Close the blinds and lights off. Also LG has not jumped on board the Cinavia bullcrap as of yet. So thumbs up to them.
