I am curious about the 3:2 setting on the Panasonic displays and when to use it.

From the video it seems that it should be set to the On position when watching film content such as Blu-Ray. Would it be appropriate to have it Off/Auto position for something like a cable/broadcast television feed or should it be left in the On position for all content?

Or it's about selecting the best out of 2013 models regardless overall PQ?

Sharp won 2 years ..Panny plasma was best last year

from my score sheet from last night...........The Samsung plasma was best..54 points ..the 2 Pannys were equal.50 points...strong showing also by the Samsung LED which was ignored mostly...51 points

please note..I never give a 10..... a 9 is the highest I give out

What categories is the Samsung excelling at? Or is that a stupid question? I didn't watch the feed and am on the fence between the Samsung and the ZT60.... Thanks!

I didn't attend either, though I would've loved too.

In regards to wondering what categories the Samsung excelled at, from what I've read on here as well as what I saw on the VE shootout, the answer is really all of the above.

Honestly, go and look at the F8500 and ZT60 for yourself and see what you think. The extra light output that the F8500 offers might be a nice benefit to you, or the slightly deeper black levels on the ZT60 might be advantageous given the right viewing environment (also consider the VT60, from what was said at the Shootout the only true difference between the ZT and VT is the A/R filter), or either might just look identical and it comes down to a brand preference. smile.gif

60F8000; RX-V367; TSi300 x2; YST-SW102; Harmony 650; Apple TV; Microsoft Xbox One Console; RF-HTS120;

xRite i1 Display Pro (OEM); CalMAN 5 Basic; ColorHCFR

As a spokesman of the USA chapter of the IPA (International Procrastinators Association), we predict that the F8500 will be the winner.

Well vinnie97, one of the kindest and most helpful and respected members here, was banned for silly reasons. And now vinnie_RIP is banned as well. Of course it needs to be noted that the flat panel that would win in a general public Best Buy walk-in vote would be whatever was the brightest and most cartoonishly high-saturation LED-LCD display that wasn't on Eco mode.

Does VE count all audience votes equally with the calibrator votes? No offense, but I'm only interested in what the trained eyes see -- not whomever happened to be in the audience. smile.gif

They are seperated there is the audience vote and the calibrator vote.....I believe they are averaged out and thats how they get to determine who's the winner...

Yes, that was hardly an attack. More like a compliment. The panel showed last night it's still worthy of being defended.

I told everyone the shoot out would be rigged but would anyone listen? Nooooooooooooooooo!!! I was stupid--didn't know what I was talking about!

It's one thing to say that LCD looks worth a crap but now there are people around here uttering blasphemies such as the blackest blacks in plasma don't matter!!!!!

If the ZT60 loses then what did Panasonic get when they bought the Pioneer patents? If they can't beat out Samsung then they are a DISGRACE!!!

What an awful way to end for such a proud company.

Was Panasonic too dumb not to use all the patents?

The one good thing that may happen from this rigged farce is that maybe Samsung will produce plasmas longer.

Panasonic will be quitting soon crying like a baby.

When Samsung quits then get ready for the worldwide LCD only domination horror story apocalyptic holocaust!

I'll tell you all "I told you so" then, too!

I wonder if the Chinese are teaming up with a certain worldwide retailer(even I've got sense enough not to mention that name!) to convince us that 4K LCD doesn't suck at 55 inches?

I wonder if they are researching just HOW MUCH it can suck and still sell once plasma is completely gone?

I think the sales force here will try to sell anything! They once tried to sell rear projection LCD that you could see through!

If you buy a ZT60 or a f8500 you'll get something that doesn't suck.

Are any of the calibrator know it alls at the shoot out brave enough to say that every Kuro has been dethroned or would that cut down on Kuro calibration business?

P.S. That was real Artwood--not LG wanabee Artwood!

I see you guys are using my score sheet......that's ok..

what Vinnie was saying is I am a Kuro owner and I love that tv..I am also not a fan of LCD tv's.....So how come I gave the Sammy LED such high scores?..because it earned it and deserved it. I was sitting in the front row in the sweet spot for both LED tv's and the Sammy was just that good. So if you are in the market for and LCD/LED tv..it has an excellent picture and very detailed compared to the Panny plasmas which were a bit too dark. Could be the way they were calibrated and so much crap going on during the show and changing of settings that the Panny's came up short next both Sammy tv's. I felt there was a great push for the Panny's at the show even though it is supposed to be neutral. I love Panny plasmas and I dislike Samsung products..but to be fair , IMO their tv's really shined while the Panny's were same as usual, top notch, but dull and not attention grabbers. I don't know how the results from all the scores will add up, we will know soon. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sammy plasma finish first as it outperformed the Panny's head on. The much ignored Sammy LED tv may not get a lookin in the voting but there were a few of us who kept going back to it and saying..Damn that looks great.

Kuro warrior?...I like that...biggrin.gif

Now I'm even more surprised to hear that vote was yours, Gene. eek.gif A little surprised that you felt the F8500's black level was deeper than the ZT/VT60s as well.

I think the best way for me to find out how good the ZT60 is, is to buy one break it in and see how good it is. Maybe even get it calibrated. They have a return policy so if it is a disappointment, can a least return it.
Also judging what CNET said about the VT60
In their recent review, I find it hard to believe
The ZT60 looks worse. So many varying opinions, but really what counts is your own individual opinion!

It wasn't. IMO, the Panasonic plasmas had slightly better black level than the Samsung, do to its filter, which is a double-edged sword, as it also hindered its light output (30 ftls eek.gif ). The Samsungs light output was held to 40 ftls. It was capable of I believe 60 ftls.

So if you are in a darkened environment, the Panasonic would have the edge for its slightly better black level. If you watch in a normally lit room, the Samsung would be better.

The panels were oh so close, that, to me, other than price, that would be the deciding factor. All three panels came very close to the kuro but not all the way there. I sat next to the ZT and Samsung, with the Kuro below. During the show, with regular programming, the Kuro was still superior

At the end, they moved the Kuro near the VT and the Samsung, and played rapid fire Kuro demo materials, which IMO moved too fast to really form a comparison, since the image on the screen wasnt on the screen long enough for you to look at one screen, then the other, to compare. The image just changed to quickly.

ISF Calibrator

Pioneer Kuro Elite Pro-111FD
Pioneer Kuro BDP-320

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

Thanks for your input. I was going to replace my Panasonic 65" V10 plasma with the ZT60. Do you think the ZT60 would be darker than the V10 which is 3 generations older? My V10 is just about right brightness but if if was darker maybe be too dark. When I saw the Samsung F8500 in person in looked too bright, but think the it's possible store had it set too bright!
