A little surprised that you felt the F8500's black level was deeper than the ZT/VT60s as well.
It wasn't. IMO, the Panasonic plasmas had slightly better black level than the Samsung, do to its filter, which is a double-edged sword, as it also hindered its light output (30 ftls
). The Samsungs light output was held to 40 ftls. It was capable of I believe 60 ftls.
So if you are in a darkened environment, the Panasonic would have the edge for its slightly better black level. If you watch in a normally lit room, the Samsung would be better.
The panels were oh so close, that, to me, other than price, that would be the deciding factor. All three panels came very close to the kuro but not all the way there. I sat next to the ZT and Samsung, with the Kuro below. During the show, with regular programming, the Kuro was still superior
At the end, they moved the Kuro near the VT and the Samsung, and played rapid fire Kuro demo materials, which IMO moved too fast to really form a comparison, since the image on the screen wasnt on the screen long enough for you to look at one screen, then the other, to compare. The image just changed to quickly.
