AUO have both 2k and 4k in passive 3d but Sony for now is only using them in 4k.

I was assuming all 3 sizes were similar (LG IPS), but I'm not so sure now that I think about it.

The top LG models use SPVA panels. The lower IPS panels don't have these problems. I own two lg LEDs, one of them a 2012 model. Screen uniformity is excellent excepting at high backlight settings, where flash lighting can be seen. Contrast is not the best, but the problems that the OP raises are atypical of LG LEDs.
