Yes, less their current $300 discount. End result is after 5-6 weeks when I get the rebate the 42HD set will cost $3,195 - $200 - $300 = $2,695.00 verus $2995 - what ever discount CC may have after the 28th.

If I buy in Delaware I can save sales tax on $3,195 or $191.70 This just means I have to take the 40 minute drive twice........once to get the set and once next week for the price match.

Damn, I even confused myself that time! Savings will be price match - CC current discount + rebate or (500-300)+300=500 whew! Actually, I just checked SEARS (2 blocks from CC here) I could do it ALL today as Sears has the 50HD on sale for $2,995! They price match AND I turn in the rebate! End result is still the $300 rebate savings.

was at cc last night, I was offered the 42hd for 2799 plus the 300 rebate and was told the rebate would not count for the price drop.

Agreed. What are you referring to, Chris?

We've already seen a nice price drop at Plasma Concepts for the HD508UK.

Both. Hard to belive. We are all down to days on price drops and the release of the new Panasonic Commercial line. The impact is and will be quite strong on the market here as this happens. I have gotten a taste of the Consumer line price drops also and I am at a loss for words on what prices we will be down to.

Then of course all the other big names are still going to want to sell screens so they will follow suite. If a person was just a little shy as far as funds go and was waitning for something big to happen....its coming....

(realize on some units the change has happened, the PHD8UK are not in anyones hands at this point so who can give you there best price? The consumer line has not dropped yet. We all have to wait.)

Does all this plasma price dropping have anything to do with the new sony A10s?

I think its been mentioned but the price of the 50PHD8UK at Plasma Concepts (and I am sure others soon will match) is somwhere I didn't think would happen this year. I love seeing the first digit on the price for a brand name 50" plasma is now < 3, now if only it would get to < 2 :)

under 3K is going to be the norm for the 50, i bet. right now we're looking at the very first units hitting the street. the prices look amazing, but they still got streach in them.

funny thing: whether to buy the 42 or 50 is still not any easier. i mean, they're still separated by $1000 which is a helluva difference

I was ready to order a 50" 8uk but now with the 50" SXRD so close to being released I think I'll wait. Is anyone in the same boat and which way are u leaning and why. I know no one has seen the SXRD 50" but the technology looks very promising to me. I think it might cost a few hundred more but it might be worth it.
Any thoughts or advice?

I think that should be a new thread.

PS. I almost bought the 50" SXRD (had a great deal on it, too).

But I backed off, realizing that I am more of a Direct View guy (ie I don't like the Rear-Projected look as much as plasma or CRT).

Did I say this should be a separate thread? :)

I am likely going to go the internet option, but may explore the brick and mortar option as well if prices truely drop as anticipated. Does anyone know well known B&M dealers that are carrying the Panasonic TH-50PX500U? I see a number of them that carry the 50u (Walmart and Sears included), but not the 500u - or at least they are not listed on their websites... I live in Southeastern Ohio so my store options are limited - no high end boutiques avail here.

Galen.

OK, I see there are a few questions about CC so let me address them best I can...

CC's low price guarantee does technically take your after-rebate price into account. In other words, if your before-rebate price was $7 but your AFTER-rebate price was $5 (intentionally using fake nnumbers) and MSRP drops to $4, then you will get $1.10 (110% of the difference) back...not $3.30. Yes, sometimes rebates are overlooked in these situations on accident because rebates are not common at CC in TVs. I just wanted to make sure you don't make your purchase thinking your low price guarantee refund will definately ignore the rebate because technically it shouldn't.

CC's low price guarantee does not include online sites unless they are sites for local B&M stores (i.e. BB.com). In other words, you can't go in and expect them to price match crutchfield.com or something.

As for what you will see on Sunday....well, obviously I shouldn't give out specifics but suffice it to say that the Panasonic plasmas are on the front page of this coming Sunday's ad. Also, CC frequently offers aggressive deals on TVs in printed ads. This coming week will be no exception. Many people who have been waiting to pull the trigger on the 50PX50U in a B&M store will find next week to be a tempting week in which to do so.

Someone said that the in-store prices are almost always lower than the ad price. This is not true, at least not for CC. Ads are created and printed weeks in advance. CC shops the competition and does their best to ensure that they are at or below the best price in the retail market for that week. Sometimes there are oversights of course which is why customers are encouraged to this bring this to CC's attention when they're shopping. You may think that's not true because they then lose margin on the price reduction but think about it, they're going to go and reduce that price after you tell bring a competitive price to their attention. If this hadn't been done, a customer who's not up for pointing it out later might just leave the store and go where they saw the price lower so it's to CC's advantage to welcome information regarding lower prices that they missed when shopping the competitors. At any rate, my point is, CC's tagged prices on the floor will be the same as the ad price unless they become aware of a lower price in the market after the ad was printed. This is when you will find a discrepancy but is more the exception than the rule.

so, what's the word on the 500Us?

is there any chance i could get one anywhere near the 42px50u MSRP of $3199 MSRP minus the typical CC sale price!?

it does seems that internet is the only option for most people looking for a 500u at a good price.

this doesnt make much sence. i think everyone will be paying the same no matter what. i dont think they are price matching the msrp difference. they are price matching the price they offer. ...500(drop) less than the 3195 it is right now is your 2695...and 2895-200(diff) (500(drop)-300(rebate)) is still your 2695.

you buy now, you buy later you are going to ge the same price...unless you run into a real dumb CC customer service representative.

btw, CC is offering 10% gift cards (which has no impact on your future price matching) on purchases when you call the website number and order. also, i know all the CC stores in my area are sold out of the 42px50u and so is sears. CC has none of them in their warehouse either.

The 42PX50U is very difficult to keep in stock. CC is Panasonic's #1 account and even with that fact they still struggle to get enough inventory for what they sell. The inventory situation is much better on the 50".

Waiting to see how the SXRD is myself, but it sounds promising. Also the new Pioneer sounds promising.
Does anyone know if Panasonic is releasing a new generation plasma anytime soon? So many choices already!

Who does the rebate check come from, CC or Panny or ?? Towel dude do you know? At my CC they offered to return any change in the CC offered price between now and next 30 days independent of the rebate AS long as my receipt was dated before 8/28.

Hi All,

I'd like to get your opinion on the recent price drops. Just yesterday, I saw Visual Apex drop like $100 on the 42 8UK. Is it a good idea to wait or buy now. Do you think they will also drop the price on the 50 8UK also?. I'm ready to buy, not sure if I should wait a few more days or possibly a week. Do yal think the price will drop even more
