As the topic title suggests, it's time for me to step up to some flat panel tech (currently on a 30" Sony CRT). I'll try to be as detailed as possible to give all you experts out there more to go on in providing the best suggestions possible.
The primary use will be gaming. I have a PS3, PS2, and Wii. So, as you can see, there will be a mix of HD and SD signals involved.
The secondary use will be Blu-Ray movies and other HD content.
So, my primary concern with the new TV will be input lag. Many of the games I play, both HD and SD, require precise timing. As such, even 1 frame of lag can effect the outcome of a game. I know pretty much all flat panels lag these days, but my aim right now is to get the lowest possible input lag available without sacrificing too much in other areas (like PQ).
With my primary concern in mind, I want at least a 46" screen at 1080p. As far as picture quality, I want decent black levels for both gaming and movie viewing, with no screen inconsistancy due to back-light bleeding and whatnot.
As far as price, I would like to stay under $1500 if at all possible.
Now, I already know that many people will probably suggest a plasma of some sort, so that brings in a new concern: image retention and/or burn-in.
While I don't do those crazy 8-hour gaming marathons, I do tend to play for several hours at a time, so I don't want image retention to become overly distracting. That is really my only problem as far as plasma's are concerned.
So, with all that in mind, feel free to make me some suggestions; any and all will be appreciated! Thanks!
