Bottom line: These are delicate items and subject to willful as well as inadvertent mishandling at all steps, even with the best of intentions. Having it delivered means that it must arrive in your hands in perfect condition and, if not, it is someone else's responsibility to replace it.

True, but a least you can check it before you get it home.

And if you break it on the way home? The store knows that it was fine when it left so how will you explain it to them.

The 65" Panny I bought could not be checked before I got it home as it was in a local warehouse and not in the physical store I saw the demo model at. Also that 65 incher would not fit in my SUV so they had to truck it to me. Being a cold winter day when it arrived I left it in the box too for a couple of hours so as not to get condensation inside the set.

Kal, I see you point. You know, my very first HiFi unit was ordered from one of the two national catalog sales companies at the time (late 50's). One was Allied Electronics, in Chicago and the one I chose was a smaller company named Radio Shack, from Boston. I ordered a Bogen amp/pre-amp, a AR-1 speaker and I think a Dual player, but not sure about that one. Everything was delivered by USPS to our home, then in Biloxi where I was stationed, in perfect condition. Since then I haven't looked back. I prefer to purchase large items locally, however, I would not hesitate if that item was not available at a local store for a reasonable price.

Even my 60" TV that Sony provided me for my defective 60XBR1 was flown from LAX to DFW and delivered palletized, in great shape. Perhaps I've been lucky...
