I bought a refurbished UN55C8000 last month from Magnolia Hi Fi and Video and bought the extended warranty for 4 years. Now if Magnolia goes under can I my warranty be covered by Best Buy since they are the same company. With the onslaught of Amazon selling HDTVs it seems the days of brick and mortar are kind of doomed.

Your first mistake was buying the EW from them. What did they charge you? $400? Could have bought a Square Trade or Mack EW for much much less and had no worries. I would suggest talking to BB to see if they cover Magnolias EW if Magnolia closes its doors.

Even if Magnolia and/or BB were to go bankrupt the extended warranties that are still in effect will be honored by their insurance company until their expiration date. When CC went under, i got letters from some surety company that took over all their EWs reassuring me that my warranty will be honored, and gave me phone numbers to contact should i need service. I think this stuff is dictated by the bankruptcy courts.

But if that Magnolia warranty was bought less than 30 days ago, i'd ask for a complete refund then indeed get one from Mack or Square Trade instead.

The TV was 1200.00 and the EW for 4 years was 150.00

Damn that aint a bad price at all. I wonder if they have dropped the prices of their EW's to compete with the other EW companies.

That was well worth the price and will give you peace of mind. 1 simple problem with the tv after the first year and you'll already be ahead since they usually charge $150 just to show up and look at your set.

It's the same as I bought a Samsung LCD from a stand alone Magnolia store when they still had them here in Oregon and even used my BB credit card to purchase it. 2 years later I needed to have some warranty work done (dreaded Samsung capacitor issue) and the Magnolias had closed and I was directed to contacting BB and a tech from the Geek squad came out and repaired it.
