Is there a good reason that Samsung and other manufacturers are not offering 50" LED models on the higher series. I would ideally like a 50" LED, from Samsungs 7000 or 8000 range but this doesn't exist today. Searched for an answer but no luck elsewhere on AVS.
Probably because they can not manufacturer 50" panels as efficiently as they can make 55" panels and there appears to be a very small market for 50" panels instead of 55" panels. So it does not make sense for a manufacturer to offer both a 50 and a 55" model using the latest high end video processing chips and have them both be profitable.
For whatever reason the 50" led/lcd sets are marketed as economy models. This screen size for lcds has only been available for a bit less than a year and probably all the 50" panels come from the same oem.
I'd speculate that they are less than high end panels used in an attempt to make a 50" lcd at a price point similar to a 50" plasma and not suitable for high end application.
Also there's been size creep on high end sets for the last 4 or 5 years meaning that mfgs have long been eliminating flagship status in smaller screen sizes for some time now.
