Wow looks like SC is going to show the gray non uniformity as well frown.gif

Well we'll see tonight. At least those blacks will be wonderful. Hope my square is gone wink.gif the horizontal line is just from the ps3 pause menu. I pause the movie and turn the brightness up like 20 notches to reveal the grays during a movie and see what stuck

If I sow a wind now, I will reap a storm.

Gotcha'. Sin City looked great here (but I watched from 10 or more feet out)...didn't notice much in the way of nonuniformity.

Well I watched there will be blood last night and turned the TV off when it was done just got in from work and loaded up a white slide and the letter box bars could be seen I'm sure it will fade but not a good sign.

Thinking of canceling my replacement I'm seeing these uniformity issues way too much.

The worst case scenario is that you cancel and get your money back, and then LG decides to get out of the OLED business.  I don't think that's going to happen.  But no one would want a completely unsupported OLED at this point anyway.

Tough call.  What bothers me is that there are folks reporting no issues.  Not just not reporting issues, but reporting no issues.

I wonder if there's a way to pin down which manufacturing lot they belong to.

Perhaps Cleveland Plasma has an idea about this....?

I watched Sin City one to two weeks ago. My last mini-update above post Star Wars Episode 3 viewing contains my latest update (the uneven wear problem is slightly better, everything else equal).

There are people that spend $$$$ on a TV that don't want there to be any problems so they'll not look for any and if they do see anything might just blame the source If I was watching in a room with a bit of light I wouldn't have seen the poor uniformity in there will be blood.

When I was looking to buy a f8500 some people were saying they didn't have any horizontal band or buzzing so after having a bunch of them and all of them having both buzzing and a horizontal band some were better then others but they all had a band but it was these people that kept saying oh they don't all have it that made me swap TV after TV trying to get one.

On my last set I was going to put up with the band and buzzing and some wired flashing dots that I was getting but then I got a stuck/dead red pixel so I went to swap again but Samsung stopped selling the f8500 in the UK so I was boned.

Not unexpected. My experience mirrors yours, but it seems to become less susceptible as it ages.

You guys are reeking havoc with my pattern matching abilities.  I can't figure out:

1. if it's random: it follows a semi predictable path and then swims around and bites us in the @$$.

2. if it gets worse with time

3. if it gets better with time

4. if it needs breaking in

5. what kind of breaking in

6. if it goes away by itself

7. if static images cause IR (No to HUD at first, but yes to comedy central)

Good grief.

So I just got done viewing this set in person for my very first time at a local Fry's.

WOW eek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gif best picture I have ever seen! I nearly walked right out of there with a 55 incher.

I looked for IR on the floor model and couldn't find any from a foot away pixel peeping. I didn't run any slides either though since it was just a quick break and I wasn't even prepared to see this thing there.

The curve is definitely a non issue - ridiculously so after being so worried about it before release. It is so slight I can't imagine anyone getting bent smile.gif out of shape over it after an in person viewing.

I'm not sure how people can think these are that expensive either. Their retail price was 3,999 (not even on sale). For a 55inch of a technology this brand new I don't see how anyone can ever think this is going to be a ridiculously expensive technology.

I know what you mean - it's a beauty, isn't it? To be honest, it's all I can do to resist snapping up one of these at a great price match I've got. As it is, I'm trying to resist temptation for the even more appealing prospect of one of the 65" 4K sets when they come out. If I'm going to spend big bucks on one of these beauties, I figure it's probably not worth doing things by halves.

It's just as well I'm one of those deferred gratification types, right? :-)

The curve may be a non issue, but it adds absolutely nothing. While taking away viewing angle and flush wall mounting. They could add a 12" bezel that would not take away from the picture either, but I still would not want it.

Actually I tested side views of the curves vs the flats and I think if I was one of the unfortunate ones to the side of the screen I'd rather be viewing on the curve - looked better to me towards the extreme angles.

I agree on the curve issue accept those who want to wall mount.  The other thing is the wall mount TV comes with twice as powerful audio built in the frame.

Alright got the bars to almost go away just a trace left and I'm seeing a patten it seems turning the TV off after playing a wiper/slides for a while will clear the IR I had the wiper on for about an hour after already watching full screen TV when that was done I checked grey and the bars hadn't changed one bit then I had the TV off for about 30mins and when I turned it back on it looked a lot better.

The TV was off all last night after watching there will be blood so turning the TV off on its own isn't clearing it but running sliders/full screen content then having having the set off seems to be clearing it.

I do see DSE, nothing is perfect.  I believe some of this is processing and some is the thinness of the panel.   The pluses of the picture quality out way the minuses.  I went and looked at the new 55" 4K XBRB model, the best LCD 4K I have seen but many issues with banding, viewing angle and clouding I saw and after seeing OLED blacks let just say LCD  does not come close.   I did read the Samsung did not have some of the issues as the LG but for the price the LG is close enough to perfect.

That's why I will say again (much to Rogo's chagrin) that I think Samsung's method of manufacturing is superior for us PPPs (pixel peeping perfectionists). Apparently, it's grayscale is the holy grail (or a whole helluva lot better than our "lowly" LGs). tongue.gif Too bad they couldn't get more than 30% yields...in the meantime, WO(EISME)LED will have to suffice with great hopes and expectations for round (gen) 2.

according to sound and vision they had annoying uniformity issues and their greyscale had a faint purple/pink hue http://www.soundandvision.com/content/samsung-kn55s9c-3d-oled-hdtv-test-bench

Of course they follow it up by saying its a non factor while watching regular content.

Well, it looks to me that awkward coloring was their only uniformity complaint. The only other complaint related to the curve.

Geoff Morrison (whom I'm a fan of) wrote a whole article bemoaning the curve and he was the participant in that sound and visionreview who complained loudly about the curve as well. It was one of the big reasons I might not have bought one of these fine tv's to begin with.

Thankfully your comments as with the other daring owners' showed me the light wink.gif. My inperson experience confirms yours as well.

Pick your poison, eh? biggrin.gif To be honest, I see a slight pink or purplish discoloration on my set also, but too slight to be noticeable on viewing and thus not worth raising a stink (and only on the far right-hand side). I'd agree loud complaints about the curve should be summarily dismissed. There's no better way of knowing how it will fare aside from demoing it for yourself (or, if you're brave, buying one sight unseen).
