Do you know if the 3000 hour panel started out with such perfect grey uniformity? Just wondering if it changes at all as the set ages. Also curious how many dead pixels it started with before reaching 30+

I may get another new panel before they discontinue these, as per all the luck it seems like all the recent owners are having. Were we just unlucky vinnie or what? Did they already begin improving the IR and gray uniformity?

It's bright enough for me too. If you set the OLED lights to 80 in daylight, I can't see anybody needing it much brighter. Though my other panel didn't go as bright as this one so there could be a disparity.
Personally, I just think we're more particular about these things. Let's give it some more time for the Microcenter honeymoon to end.

So, if you are inside an app, you can't call out those features that are in another app, only system wide features. So, for example, I'm experimenting with ARC to route Netflix audio to my AVR with HDMI ARC (BTW, the Netflix app UI is the best I have ever seen). There is this little problem with ARC in general in most of today's TVs: you have to enable HDMI CEC or SimpleLink in LG's term in order to get ARC. But once you enabled it, next time you power up the TV, it will automatically switch your AVR to TV input. That's fine if all you do is watching contents using TV's apps. But if you like to use other sources like BD player or cable box from AVR, it will render that useless until you manually switch back to the correct AVR input afterwards. So, the solution for me is to disable SimpleLink until I need to watch Netflix. There is an IR command for it (SimpleLink) to bring out the SimpleLink menu to turn it on or off. But the trouble is, it is an app. So I can't call it out inside another app like Netflix. So, you have to do it before you enter the app. Kind of annoying.

I like the Netflix app UI and the speed it loads up. Much faster than my BD player. The only downside is that it only streams DD 5.1 audio, not DD+ 5.1 audio.
thanks for the solution, xbox1 seems much simpler now

LOL everyone in this forum is so funny. People spend more time looking for banding, greyscale issues, and whatever what not rather than just enjoying their sets which they spent their hard earned money on. Every set is going to have its issues I for one know first hand having owned every reference set from 2007 to date literally but shouldn't we be spending time enjoying these beautiful sets rather than tearing every aspect down bit by bit because they are not perfect. I know OLED has some kinks to be worked out but remember its a first generation and it trumps every other first generation tech we have seen. Everyone I truly enjoy the comments people have to post whether it be negative or positive but when you can get on your set and pick out one dead pixel on a daily basis you are searching for them and not enjoying your sets it almost seems as if rather than enjoying a movie some are putting on D nice slides with a microscope on the screen to see the flaws on the television. My suggestion everyone enjoy your sets you paid good money for them!

My oled has no dead ones, but it isnt complete uniform on sum of the grey slides i use. For me thats issue is so minor that i dont pay any atention to it. Picture looks fantastic and i cant wait to get it calibrated at the end of next mnt.

The Day After Tomorrow (a movie I like to laugh at but also appreciate the special efx) looked really good tonight. Hadn't watched the set in over a month. Instead of running the pixel jogger for a few hours, I just turned it off. Will see how it looks IR-wise in 24 or so hours when I fire it back up (I can't help it...cumulative damage scares me ).

Vinnie, did you really not watch the set for such a long time out of fear of additional IR? You said you still were able to get rid of most of it after a viewing session.

A "don't worry be happy" comment surfaces now and then here. I may have made one or two myself years ago.

But this is a forum about audio video science, and we discuss not only the details of the good but also the details of the bad. This forum is populated by imaging professionals (of all kinds) deeply interested in what happens and how, especially for new products and new product technologies.

The detailed critique you see on a daily basis here is critical in understanding the issues present. There are legitimate concerns for this new technology, and right now of all times is precisely when digging into every last detail is useful for people.

Many people have been put off from buying the EA because of the issues folks report on. That is how it should be. We shouldn't be treating this as some sort of fan-boy only club.

Dig away folks, as relentless as you can be. Find every last dead and dying subpixel and report on it. If the 0.000000001% gray looks off (hyperbole) then let us know.

I agree and appreciate people being critical so I have a better idea of what I am in for if I get one of these sets. The sub pixel thing isn't a big to me IF they can't be seen during regular content and from a normal seating distance (although it is a bit concerning they seem to be dying on a regular basis for some members keeping track) but other stuff is important to me and I'd rather people report on uniformity issues and banding than just be all fanboyish and ignore any problems simply because the image is good.

That said, I also enjoy reading the "wow" type comments and just want people to enjoy their sets in whichever way pleases them.

No, I was watching the ZT60 in the great room because it's still a fantastic set. I have to go out of my way to watch the OLED (which is worth it but not all the time).

I am enjoying my set. That doesn't mean my eyes won't see what they're seeing. I have burn in on mine which shows up occasionally, the dead sub pixels I saw in normal viewing (which I did stop caring about because it's too infrequent) and the grayscale I saw in normal viewing conditions. Maybe my eyes are just more sensitive but I dunno, I don't really see how. I just look at the screen like anyone else, and I see these things; sure it's only from time to time, and not necessarily every day but it's enough to notice and comment on them. My vision is poor but I wear glasses which bring it to 20/20, as I'm sure many others do. And when there's countless other people saying they're not having any issues whatsoever, obviously I'm going to want to figure out if I should do something about it.

Going out of my way lo lie to myself is what doesn't make sense to me. Sure, every set is going to have its problems and I'm aware of that, but why shouldn't those problems be discussed; especially with brand new technology?

What would typically be grounds for banning? It must've been pretty serious.

He's always seemed logical and non-argumentative. Plus he's been on here forever, how odd.

Then this must have happened in another thread and is probably totally unrelated to anything here.

The ban is probably short term, but I have no idea what precipitated it.

This is a forum where people talk endlessly about their tv's...It's an audio visual science forum made up of precisely the antithesis of "average" consumers.Obviously the more discerning among us would be here. The whole "everybody stop saying bad things about their tv's; just turn them on and use them, nothing else" thing completely eludes me. What would the point of this thread be if all the posts were like this:

Person A: I really love everything about this tv
Person B: Me too! Is there anything you think can be improved?
Person A: Of course not.
Person C: Of course not.
Person D: No way.
Person A: Great....now what?
Person B: Let's talk about the blacks.
Person A: Theyre Perfect.
Person C: Perfect.
Person D: Incredible.
Person B: ....How about the grays?
Person C: Wonderful
Person D: Not perfect but I'll pretend it is
Person A: Totally
Person B: Agreed.
Person E: yup...now what guys?

If there ever was a product made specifically for a discerning eye it would be this one. Most people don't even know what black levels are. If it's normal for people to talk about clouding and banding and IR on other threads then surely anybody who pays a premium for a niche market product will be dissecting it.

Not trying to stir any trouble here, I know you mean well CP, I'm just trying to make a point.

I saw some pretty good banding last night and I wonder if any of you are able to reproduce it.

I was watching a Showtime On Demand series called Penny Dreadful. Season 1, episode 2 in the opening scene set in old London during a foggy night and we see a lamplighter emerging from the fog.

Let me know if you see it.

As we know My set is uncalibrated and this is HD content via Comcast on a box that I am not thrilled about. I rarely see banding on this display and never on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD only on cable. I am currently using the ISF 1 setting out of the box with the only change I made to it was a small bump in brightness to 52. I have the motion set to User and I think its set to 2 and 6. I have all other video processing and noise reduction off.

Thanks
