I can't circle it, but if you start on the bottom right of the tv, up from the clear stand, then u hit the black bezel, then right above that, you can see a black slope with a barcode looking thing
I think that's the panel driver in question and the only reason it's a question is because a member of another forum said lg is replacing his set because of this

I don't even know what those rectangles of color are supposed to be. Seriously, this is a sub-conversation I can't even begin to understand.

Ok, someone PLEASE tell me what we're talking about. I still can't figure it out. I just put some circles down. Tell me which number. If NONE of them, then someone please put a circle down themselves.

Correct. It takes light and I have to be close to see it, I cannot see it while viewing tv
Other board member claims he can see his 8 ft away which resulted in him requesting a replacement
I think all the sets are like this, can you see it on yours?

I don't own the beast, I'm an LCD dude for the time being. Don't trust this newfangled stuff just yet, though I've been researching the bejeebers outta the technology for a while now.

I've never heard of rectangles showing up like that on an emission system. I have no idea what it even might be.

That's not part of displayable area. Emissive or not has nothing to do with it.

Edge bleed isn't technically part of the display area either. It's just under or above it, and LCD's suffer from that. Just pointing out that there is no other source of light other than the actual pixels in emissive devices.

There is no light on those highlighted area either. It just look like rectangular tape instead of part of the body panel. The photo with strong flash light on it makes it looks worse than it actual is.

I think it's almost 100% certain that the letterbox IR you guys are seeing has nothing to do with OLED.

If you read Chad's review of a recent 4K LG LCD, you will find it also suffers from IR:

"Official" 2014 4K LG 65UB9800 / 79UB9800 / 84UB9800 Owners Thread

IR is something that LG has been struggling with on their LCD panels for years and it appears that this backplane design issue has made its way into their OLED design too.

Real IR/burn in the actual OLED material would probably take much longer to become visible than simply watching 1 LB movie. It would also not disappear so easily.

I can sometimes see 1, 2, 4 and 5 also. As I remember it is mainly when the room is really illuminated (middle of the day).

It is the underlying material in those strips that reflects light slightly differently than the rest of the panel. So, if you have external light shining on it, you will notice it easily. As I mentioned above, it is all about how and where you look at it.

Very interesting to read that it does seem issues with image retention appear to result from LG's backplane technology, and not from the OLED elements.

It's just unfortunate that there's already been this widely disseminated notion that the problem is specific to the brand new OLED tech. Even if this is now possibly proving not to be the case, as the old saying goes, 'sh** sticks'.

Is it possible LG and Samsung could reach a deal whereby LG provides Samsung with its OLED panels in exchange for their superior backplane technology?

Yeah, I kinda realise it's a vain hope, but it's such a shame if together they hold the key to perfecting OLED displays.

I guess our hope now is that LG can continue to refine their backplane tech, and that we perhaps see am improvement in the next sets coming along in October.

Helle every buddy. This is my virgin post

I've been going through this thread as nighttime reading for over a week now as you guys seem to the ones with the biggest expertise on LG OLED!

I'm almost convinced that I will acquire myself a 55EA880V before the year is out (I'm hoping the 4K sets will further reduce the price of the 2K's... Right now it's around £3000).

I've been reading a lot about your issues with the TV and was wondering if, knowing this beforehand' would still result in you buying it? Is it worth it?

And do all of you need to run the sliders all the time and is it a must? I don't want the wast panel life or my time doing this every week!

And does it show on normal viewing?

Does any of you, owing an OLED use a Darbee Darblet as well or is it a complete wast of money when used on an OLED panel?

And as a last remark I just want to thank you guys for spending the time telling your stories, reviews can only get you that far!!

Yes, I would buy it again in a heartbeat
Only real issues I have had have been random turn offs by the tv
I haven't had any issues with the picture, no matter what's on, it looks better
I have never run slides to prep and have no ir

Only question for me now is how this tv holds up over time, I'm 120 hours in
Good luck with your search and buy with confidence

I never ran any slides and there is zero evidence that it did anything other than wasting panel life. Some ppl simply did it using the advises from plasma owners.

Just enjoy it.

Hey guys. I've been a proud owner of this set for the last few weeks. The picture is just simply gorgeous on this tv and it's been hard to nit pick. This is really the first time that I've just sat back and enjoyed a new tv without trying to find all the faults I read about on the forums.

Here comes the but, but I've noticed something that kinda bothers me but not enough to be a huge distraction. There seems to be this yellow tint to the picture that I can't quite get rid of no matter what settings I choose. It's not bad, but I do notice it. It's especially noticeable on skin tones and also on white colors. Again, it's not terrible but it's something I can see. Another thing, when I start to view this at an angle and even more so at extreme angles, a yellow tint starts to come over the picture. Just curious if others notice either one of these things I've explained. Thanks
