Yes they are. They will be manufacturing LED?LCD's up to 55". Very limited market to begin with but just having their name bandied around again is sweet music. I see a Pioneer OLED by 2018. Why not? They certainly have a name perceived as high quality to tout.

''While the Sharp-Pioneer partnership (Sharp Elite Pro xxX5FD) at least involved some collaboration between engineers from both companies, the current one between Dixon Retail and Pioneer is nothing of that sort. Reading between the lines, what's going to happen is that the LED TVs are going to be sourced and assembled at a low cost in the Far East, with the only difference being they'll carry the famous 'Pioneer' bagde as a marketing ploy.''

Definitely. As an early Pioneer Plasma owner whose 433cmx still provides a wonderful picture quality this idea is criminal.Leave the legend to rest in peace.

They aren't trying to bring back or recreate a legend. They're just trying to get back in the game. Give em a chance why don't you. Baby steps. Start with something you can make a profit at then step up to next level. It's not like Pioneer doesn't employ a few engineers that know a little about electronics. They make great AVR's and blu-ray players. They can put together OLED displays as well as anybody else can. They don't need to develop them, just build them.

Did everyone forget that Pioneer already sold LCDs under their Kuro brand? http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/newsroom/news/news/kuroLCD/page.html
It's funny reading that now though, as it's five years old and apparently they don't put dates on their press releases.

Even if it were crap?  Wait and see what they make.

Java developers, when I saw what has been placed into Java 8 I was immediately reminded of how I've spent so much of my life trying to protect engineers from themselves. Lambda expressions are a horrible idea. Gentlemen: the goal isn't to make code readable for a competent mid-level engineer. The goal is to make code readable for a competent mid-level engineer exhausted and hopped up on caffeine at 3 am. What a disaster Java 8 is!

The # 1 share holder of Pioneer stock is.......................Sharp.

Sharp own Pioneer.

It's true that Sharp is the largest single stockholder holding slightly less than 9% of the outstanding stock.  But they do not own Pioneer and do not have any control over the other 91+ percent of the stock or Sharp's decisions in any way.

Sharp is the #1 TV seller in Japan and Sharp's position varies between #3 and #4 market share in the USA.

Not unless you own a majority of the company. You can still be the largest single stock holder and own less than 50% of the company.

There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

http://www.techradar.com/us/news/television/tv/pioneer-s-return-to-tv-what-it-means-and-why-you-should-care-1199109

"Small wonder then that Dixon's announcement that it was exclusively licensing the marque for its own use caused a tsunami of interest. But hopes that a Pioneer return will see the TV universe cosmically rebalance itself after Panasonic's plasma capitulation are likely to prove unfounded.
The owner of Currys and PC World is handling all product development and component procurement, much as it's done previously with Prinztronic, Logik and Saisho. "Dixons Retail has been granted the exclusive rights to source, develop, produce and sell Pioneer TVs in selected European markets," read the release that heralded the news.

The Chinese connection

What few people realize is that Pioneer has been quietly running a similar operation in China for more than three years. Pioneer TVs have been produced under license there, using locally sourced panels. Will the same Chinese pixel power the new European models? That's yet to be seen."
