Also, I would not read too much into the Amazon refresh rate specs.

Most likely that's just a typo or copy-paste from one of their LCD models.

Not saying everyone should just completely ignore it, but people were making it seem to be a problem exclusive to OLED, when in fact it's NOT, and OLED is better in many ways then plasma, especially for static images. Who the hell knows whats going on with the letter box bars, but I don't think it's an OLED issue, and more to do with LG's IGZO backpane. Probably fixable, and hopefully by gen 2.

So far best buy has the lowest listed price that I've been able to find, at 3999,but not in stock yet. Hopefully more quick price drops once it's released.

User manual for the 55EC9300 and the 77EC9800 (same manual).

http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-55EC9300#

The Energy Guide power consumption figure for the 55EC9300 is 151 watts vs. 166 watts for last year's model. Power consumption in the specs (presumably max) is listed at 320 watts versus 270 watts last year.

Thank You for posting the link. Looks like the 77" supports full HDMI 2.0 on HDMI 3. 4K P60 422 8,10,12 bit. 444 & RGB are 8 bit only.

I see they are still very specific to limit letterboxing to 1 hour for OLED in order to prevent burn-in.

^ Apparently they still are subject to IR or burn-in if you are to believe LG's warning that is specific to OLED.

Ken: If that is a correct interpretation of the 1 hour comment on still images, they have to fix it otherwise the TV is unusable for BD or DVD.

heres other recommendations by LG

Avoid displaying a fixed image on the TV screen for a long period of time (2 or more hours for LCD, 1 or more hours for the Plasma TV) to prevent image burn.

Dont know about you Ken, but Im willing to bet that neither the LCD or Plasma will get image burn in from running a LB movie
Sounds like ultra conservative recommendations
I have run 6 hours straight of LB movies, no burn in
Vinny ran 12 hours straight, no burn in

Like plasma, OLED's will always be subject to burn-in. Also like plasma, they will eventually have a long enough lifetime that most consumers wont have to worry about it.

While we have seen the letterbox IR, have we actually seen burn-in in the wild? The Harrod's unit was terrible but it doesnt seem like anybody has reported anything similar by a customer.

I would be willing to be a plasma would have burn in if left in similar conditions, possibly even the LCD
Static image on the screen, 8 hours a day, for months

5x10, as I recall though, Vinnie was doing extensive 'cleaning' of his display after every movie to get rid of the IR. I believe he later said 'giving it a rest' was also effective. But there still is additional 'care & feeding' to avoid or eliminate issues.

This is not to say it would totally deter me from OLED, but it is more like plasma in this regard than LCD. I can tell you I've never had an LCD that displayed any IR or burn-in regardless of what I displayed.

This is why LCD's are for the wife and kids(irresponsible) and plasmas and OLEDs are for people like us(responsible).

What does "0" mean? Usually when people put something in quotes like that it assigns different meaning to the word. Anything from a slightly different meaning to the opposite. For example, if I say. He's a real "funny" guy. It means he's not funny, at least not in the traditional definition or understanding of funny. Then again, maybe you're just angling for an appearance on The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" quotation marks.

Which reminds me... I saw a sign on the side of the road a few months back where someone was selling a "new" mattress. I'm not sure I want to know what that means.

Several hundred hours of watching OLED's with ZERO burn in.
I do not even think about it anymore, non-issue for me. I owned a Loewe plasma and never had burn in on that display either.

Specific to Oled? As I recall, the warning is standard on all LG tv's, whether they are LCD or plasma.

Do you really think they would produce a reference panel that you can't watch a BD or DVD?

Excuse me? Presumably by people "like us" you mean the menfolk who you can safely assume are the responsible ones? Those assumptions are blatantly sexist if not downright mysogynistic. There are A/V enthusiasts who are women, too, and many of us come from strong technical backgrounds.

Please try to exhibit a little self-awareness when it comes to slandering half of the human race.

Certainly hope not and the specific mention in the owners manual regarding a 1 hour limit for OLED was dictated (as in Dictator) by a lawyer wanting to cover their ass under any possible circumstances.

LG puts warnings on all of their panels about burn in, let's face it some people do stupid things that add to a potential issue. I have watched about 500 hours on OLED's and have not had any issues. I do not use slides or maintenance I just turn on the OLED and enjoy it.

I have seen much worse IR on the Panasonic plasmas. No actual verified burn-in has been shown to have occurred this does not mean be reckless and leave a paused screen on over night.

All the negative people 1st attacked OLED for being curved, then all the reviews came out and stated, not e big factor either way. So then the naysayers jumped on the burn-in IR band wagon. Mean while LCD owners continue to spend thousands of dollars on out dated technology complaining about Blooming, banding, DSE, clouding just to name a few. While OLED owners continue to enjoy truly next generation technology.

Long live OLED and I cannot wait to see 4K OLED very soon.

Yes I have two OLED's and one plasma but I am seriously considering picking up two more OLED's this year they 65 and 77. Just to think OLED has made such a splash in its first year out think how far the tech will be in 5 years it took OLED 1 year to do things that LCD and Plasma could not do in 10. There is a lot of criticism with the set as you would expect from any great set it seems the best sets always get criticized the most but one thing to always remember is this is the first generation from LG mind you and it is already getting compared with the best sets from the best manufactures that took them a decade too produce lol. WOW LONG LIVE OLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
