SAMSUNG TVS ARE INSERTING ADS INTO MOVIES & VIDEOS
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1423737102

"Several owners of Samsung Smart TVs have begun noticing ads ever 10-30 minutes when watching locally-stored movies and videos as well streaming content. Samsung says that it is caused by an error in Australian TVs, but there can be no doubt that the system has been integrated on purpose.

ADS IN YOUR HOME VIDEOS

Samsung is having a really bad week. A few days ago, people began worrying that Samsung’s TVs were eavesdropping on them, and now this. Imagine watching one of your home videos of your children, stored on your media server. Every 10-30 minutes the video will stop to display a Pepsi commercial. That is exactly what several users have experienced in recent days.

- ”Every movie I play 20-30 minutes in it plays the pepsi ad, no audio but crisp clear ad. It has happened on 6 movies today.” writes one user at Reddit."

This reports comes soon after this;

SAMSUNG'S SMART TV MAY BE EAVESDROPPING ON YOU

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1423480747

"To enable these systems the TV is often transmitting data to servers. This is true for Samsung and others as many manufacturers use the same licensed technology in TVs. However, if you take a closer look at Samsung’s privacy terms, you will learn that voice recordings or data is being sent to third parties as well.

“Samsung may collect and your device may capture voice commands and associated texts so that we can provide you with Voice Recognition features and evaluate and improve the features. Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition.”

This is the sort of questionable intercepting of user activities that would make me very wary about purchasing a Samsung TV, and other brands need to also be investigated to determine if they also are doing some of the same.

Samsung pushed real hard for smart TV feature. You actually pay a premium for the feature compare to the models without it. So it doesn't give Samsung any excuses to penalize the customers. So, disconnect the TV is just as useful as disconnect your pc from the network. Besides, pc can get all kinds of ad pop ups as well.

SAMSUNG'S SMART TV DO NOT ENCRYPT VOICE DATA

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1424337023

"Samsung is not telling the truth when it says that your private captured voice data is encrypted and secure. When David Lodge examined a Samsung TV he found that the TV only records when asking a question, but that no recordings are encrypted. Samsung is broadcasting your private data for everyone to hear.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Samsung has said over and over again that its TVs use "industry-standard security", including data encryption. So even if one of your private details were captured by the TV, it would be transmitted to a server in encrypted form. The only problem is that it is not true....

It allows them a legal CYA in the event that everyday conversation is captured and intercepted and leaked by some punk inside that 3rd party company.

Think past the intent and think in terms of what might happen.

Remember, TVs are in people's bedrooms too. This is potentially a real problem.

From Samsung's Privacy Terms.

I imagine some people would not want such personal information collected and stored by some third party.
