I'm telling on you is a threat.

Oh, and the near black handling of the 2016 models is just fine with an adequate source. This thread has runs its course.

Queue someone posting pictures of an obvious faulty panel as evidence LG is trash at handling near black.

Lol don't be childish, like this is elementary school and people are "tattling" I mean seriously!!!!

I stated what I would do and did it. And what did I do? Show Phil Jones from Sony what Ken said about the topic we were discussing, lol. And I asked him for... a comment!!!

OMG. I really ratted him out! I had NO IDEA (please note use of all caps!!!) there was a "no snitching" rule in effect. Well, now Ken's little secret is out, he thinks Sony is making up a feature and posting to that effect on a public forum! My goodness, what on Earth will happen next? Better stay tuned for the next episode.

I'M childish for noticing that tact, however you want to frame it? That's funny.

He's probably retiring for the evening, so I'll step out on a ledge and define it for him, 9 to 10 feet out is a typical seating distance from a 65" TV (though THX defines it ideally as 7 feet with UHD). The processing differences at the shootout were likely analyzed from at least 5 feet out.

And what's that? You making a specific claim that Sony is making up (i.e. lying about) a product feature, and then me fact-checking it, and then me being accused of some BS conspiracy stuff and of making veiled threats, out of the blue? Because if you won't stand by what you post here, then you should not post it at all.

Give it up Ken, people know your gimmick. I'd say yes, it is disappointing where it has gone, and you are contributing to that.

If near-black handling is "significantly improved", it must have not been all that good on 2016 LG OLED to begin with, like some of us have been saying.

All I can say is that near black handling is improved on the 2017 C7 compared to my 2016 C6, from completely intolerable to somewhat tolerable (only because of the other merits of OLED: blacks and viewing angles) but it is still a far cry from the processing and above black handling of the Z9D, and I would presume, the A1E.

Anyway, congrats on the 77G7 and enjoy it, nonetheless.

I just find it interesting your whole M.O. all these months was to downplay differences in processing and near-black handling at every turn, and now all of a sudden you notice these significant improvements on your 2017 LG OLED model.
I have long given up on having discussions with you or reading your dissertations. You don't seem to understand that. Have a good night and enjoy your Sony/Sonys, 'nonetheless'.

Oh please, cut the crap out. I never said near black issues were not an issue or couldn't be seen from a typical viewing distance. This was something I've said many times before and I even discussed it in the HD programming forum. Further, its been discussed in most professional reviews. This is not a revelation.

My comments about upscaling were said only because the picture looked crisper than what I'd seen in the 2016s...from my viewing position. Why is it you guys get uber sensitive when any LG owner says something positive about their display? What's up with that??

It appears you guys don't even want me to enjoy my new G7. What kind of person does that?

These 'massive' PQ differences you Sony guys report, just always seem to elude the professional reviewers and objective observers. It's fascinating that the hyperbole seems to come primarily from the Sony crowd.

It's interesting that this defensiveness has risen to crescendo levels ever since the shootout winner was crowned. Hardly a coincidence.

I've had enough of this nonsense for one day. Not a good day for AVS.

Don't forget to mention that the A1 thread is the only owners thread I know of where you have to explicitly state you own the TV to participate in the discussion.

The way the Sony boys have been behaving in here, I can see why they prefer a wall that keeps objective opinions and input away from their fragile belief of superiority.

In the LG threads, we welcome all to chime in and discuss

Because the LG guys destroyed the first owners thread and a second one had to be created...

No one with an A1E cares about the LG threads.

Threads like this bring the minds together and when it does, become popular instantly.

Never buy a first gen tv product LESSON!!!

I have no horse in this race, however...

The Sony A1 came in a very close 2nd place in all 3 categories (the judges and some of the other knowledgeable people at the Shootout said that they would have considered it a tie in many areas and some even believed that the A1 had a slight edge in some of them).

Therefore, I would hardly call the A1 a "loser". It is an excellent TV who's picture would be virtually indistinguishable from the E7's for the average AVS member.

It's important to keep things in perspective.

Except it was a wonderfully flawed TV due to the color issues

In seriousness, it was a fantastic TV despite the color issue... But, for me, it was still an LCD and had the inherent problems of LCD I choose not to deal with. Emissive for me unless I get a projector setup again.
