Down to the E6 & B7, what would you get?

Hello,

So I am completely redoing a room, adding speakers, lighting, motorized shades, etc. The first purchase is the OLED and it's down to the E6 or the B7 OLED.

The real differences that I found for the B7 are the following:

25% higher peak brightness
2% better DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut coverage (claimed to reach 99%)
Support for the new HLG broadcast HDR standard (for which there is so far virtually no content anyhow)
A new “Active HDR” mode for upscaling of SDR video
Dolby Atmos Sound support.

I don't think the peak brightness will make a huge difference, 2% better color gamut is not a big deal, happy with Dolby Vision and HDR 10, don't care to upscale HD (can't imagine it will make a difference), dolby atmos will be supported on the receiver and custom speakers.

One of the reasons I am really leaning toward E6 is the 3D, I know some people don't care but it's the best 3D you can get on a TV (Can see myself enjoying some 3D titles).

Am I missing anything that would lean me toward the B7? Has anyone compared the difference between these two models? Does the "Active HDR" make a difference worth skipping 3D? Love to here everyones opinion and what they have seen.

Thanks!
Emil

If you want 3D, then the 2016 models are the only way to go. Got a C6 and am quite happy. Just watched Fantastic Beasts in 3D and was quite pleased.

If you don't want or need the 3D, then I'd go for the '17 model, unless your budget doesn't allow it.

How are you seeing 3D...on a B6? That is the black sheep of the 2016 lineup without 3D unless I'm afflicted with the Mandela effect.

Yes, get the E6, OP.

If 3d is the only criteria, go for e6. But when I checked the picture quality of b7 vs e6, b7 was brighter overall. I was also inclining towards e6. But the brightness did make a difference overall, along with a slightly higher saturation. So I went with b7.
The other difference is sound bar. But I'm impressed with the stock speakers on b7 itself. I never find the need to go beyond 25.

This is obviously a typo or a confused owner and the thread is about E6 not B6. The B6 & B7 lack 3D. And I have more than halved brightness on the E6 except for HDR. Still, I think HDR on the E6 is giving me very good picture quality.

3D is more immersive than HDR. 3D takes and excellent film like gravity and involves the viewer on an emotional level IMHO.

Another argument for the E6 is that it can be had for significantly less money than a B7.

However, I have never seen an objective comparison of the E6 vs. the B7 using HDR content and if there is an advantage to the B7 I think that is where it would be.

Meant to say C6...in speaking of 3D. My bad.....I was recommending towards the E6 that way....

Shouldn't post when tired....

Yes, a typo.....should have been C6 in saying that the 3D is valuable, at least to some of us, and was pushing the E6 for that reason...

I have corrected the post....

If you ever plan on plugging a PC into it then the C7 is a MUCH better display.

It truly 'enhanced' the viewing experience....

I had a Sammy active 3D 1080P set...the '16 LG 3D experience is so much better (and the glasses are much lighter, too). Even my youngest son, who didn't like watching the 3D on the Sammy enjoys it on the LG OLED set.

Thanks for studying English. We use the word "taught" and not "teached" which would not make a bit of sense to a person whose native language is German. Additionally, your English is far advanced compared to my GI German.

And yes Americans exaggerate which we refer to as "hype" Once we start blowing everything out of proportion it is hard to stop.

I Agree!

While I enjoyed Active 3D with the Samsung Plasma F8500, the reduced brightness, flicker, and headaches only allowed for limited viewing. 2016 OLEDS are the definitive way to watch 3D flicks in the 55-65" range =) We'll have to wait for HDMI 2.69 to allow for HDR 3D am I right?
