ATV "Just works" great with the LG. DV and HDR10 no sweat so far.

No luck for me. I get a picture but no sound out to my Pioneer receiver. I have the Apple TV 4k plugged into HDMI 3 and using the optical output to my receiver. No issues w/ my PS4 Pro with this path so don't understand this issue.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Back to it just works. I have a teenager to blame for disconnecting an audio cable. Liking Apple TV 4k a lot more now.

Apple TV 4k forces everything to report as the highest setting you have. So in our cases everything shows up as Dolby Vision. That means even if it’s sending you normal 1080p SDR content, it shows up as Dolby Vision to your tv, which in turn makes your TV default to Dolby Vision settings instead of ISF mode settings (or whatever mode you use for SDR). In other words, it makes normal content look blown out and awful. The only way to change this is to manually adjust the settings through the settings menu on each thing you watch. In short, it’s a disaster in its current form.

Not sure if anyone else has tried an Apple TV 4k with the E7 yet, but the only issue I have seen so far is with Atmos Audio using the built in sound bar. With Atmos enabled there is static introduced - everything is garbled... the ATV 4k does not like it one bit. Disable that setting and everything goes back to normal. Dolby Vision and HDR work great though - fantastic picture.

This was asked back on post #283 but I didn’t see a response:

Will 2017 LG's get Enhanced ARC as a FW update?

Second question? Any other future upgrades built into the E7?

I think only LG could answer that and I don't think they have.

I also suspect a lot of people would care more about them fixing the things they broke in the current firmware that used to work. And getting the lip sync issues fixed that seems to affect a lot of people with certain setups.

I noticed this too with atmos enabled, maybe since they don't support it yet.

Picture wise, I feel like the picture looks more compressed compared to the native Netflix app on the LG E7. On mine when the white LG logo screen comes up before a show begins theres a sunburst appearance on the white area surrounding the logo - a very overly compressed signal appearance. Turning down the 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 slightly improved the issue but still noticeable. Native Netflix app on the LG looks perfect in comparison. I have a premium certified HDMI cable so I didn't think that was the issue, but I ordered another HDMI cable from Blue Jeans to see if it makes a difference.

I don't see any issue putting the E7 on this, does anyone? Apart from the mounts being lower on the E7 I think (is that correct?) So it will raise the tv height on the wall (which may help my lovely daughter not getting her grubby hand prints on the screen but that's another story!)
Look, here's one now.

In reference to my above post, I assume that will be fine as a wall mount but is there a forum/owners favourite for this tele I wonder? Or one others would highly recommend over what I already have?

Knock on wood I think I have a panel winner. No piss yellow stain, no vignetting and having run gray slides I see nothing at 20% , miniscule at 10 % and just around 4 mid size bands at 5%.

Really only seen them a tiny bit in content. Only at around 30 hours and 3 comp cycles so should get even smoother as time goes on.

Really excited to hopefully not have to play the panel lottery.

20% is generally not a trouble area. The more content you watch, the more you're likely to see whatever's lurking at 5%. In the end, it's a weighing of the pros and cons. With OLED it's typically favorable to the pros. For those who never see anything in content, they are blessed beyond belief.

Oh I agree on all that. Just reporting that so far so good with watching actual content. And if not no big deal I’ll return it if things do change.

No display is perfect but these oleds are the closest there is. Too many people watch gray slides instead of actual content. My advise watch as much content as you can in your return period and judge that way.

And for anyone looking, watch a ton of varied content. Movies, tv, light, dark and go from there.

Trust your eyes as I will mine. If I start getting bugged by anything I guess I may start the lottery.

Some say yes and some say no. So lol there is no consensus on that one. Basically if bands aren’t seen or worry you when watching actual real content then I would celebrate and enjoy the best tv tech has to offer right now!

I don't fault anyone for looking at slides. I avoided it on my last go around because I didn't want to unnecessarily torture myself through the beginning. When I began to see repeated occurrences across multiple content, I then reluctantly checked a slide. After seeing 3 77" G6s with a similar backplane structure as mine (across 2 months of production), I knew entering the lottery would be a waste.

As to the question posed by @qwknuf6 , I've had one panel where the most stark band blended into the background at 2500 hours whereas the next set did not noticeably clear. There's no definitive answer.

I have one very thin band that tends to show over all the others. For the most part I never see it unless hit with a torture test scene. If that were to fade the set would be “perfect” in my eyes in the sense I’d really have to stare at the thing to pick out the problems.

The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye.

2017 LG OLED E7/G7 Owners Thread (No Price Talk)

Hi everyone. I currently have a B6 and am close to upgrading to a C7. My real issue with the B6 is the inability to properly advance frames with 3:2 pulldown in effect.I like the cadence of 24p, but I use a new Apple TV and would like to have it output 60Hz for menus, games, etc. According to RTINGS, the 2017 models can perform perfect frame advancement of 24p over 60Hz with Real Cinema enabled and I’d appreciate some insight into that before pulling the trigger. It’s been extensively researched on the 2016’s by @3DBuff , and it cannot do it over 60Hz without interpolation.
Secondly, is it still the case that you must use the PC input icon to obtain 4:4:4 Chroma when viewing 4K HDR?

I’ve been using the slides on YouTube. Just search for oled gray slides and you should find them. Hope all works out with the panel. That’s what we all want.

Going to test that tomorrow on my set!

All oleds have banding it’s just what can you live with when watching content. I have until Oct 12 to do a direct exchange but I also will be getting BB’s 5 year warranty so I should be covered if anything starts to piss me off lol.

How do you verify HDR and DV is actually working on the E7 when using Oppo or other capable players? Right now I have it a HDR disc playing on the Oppo and passing through Denon X4300H (which now supports DV and HLG btw) and when I click on the HDMI1 info tab on the top left of the screen, all its showing me is the aspect ration, resolution and PCM.

Update on the E7:

Still putting it through the paces but I think it was vidpro and video who may have said I was too quick and they may be right lol.

Nothing too drastic and I still need to put some hours and comp cycles on the set but I do see bands on the scenes such as Marco Polo ep 3 and GitS.

One thing I will say is even if I do exchange I will NOT go back to lcd. These are still the cream of the crop when it comes to tv’s.
