My 50" Vizio is going back to Costco. The price and the HD PQ was great but it has quality control issues that I can no longer put up with. The guy at Costco advised me to go with the new Pio PDP-50A5HD. It costs quite a bit more but he says the Pio's very seldom come back. If anyone has bought this panel I'd love a quick review. I really like the fact that the speakers are detachable and the HD PQ looks awesome in the store. It doesn't have the media receiver but I don't think I'd really need that anyway. I have heard that it is not the latest generation panel however.

FWIW, I had a Vizio 42" last year from Costco, I returned it for a $$$$ more Pioneer PDP-4312 and it was totally worth it.

I did the same thing, the extra money was well worth it, I haven't looked back since. Pioneer makes great Plasma's. Most of my reading over the last year or so pretty much rated Pioneer best in class for their colors, and crisp picture, and Panasonic for their black levels. If you don't want to spend quite as much money check out Costco's website. They have a 50" Panny on their now for a pretty good price. Not sure of the exact model but it might be worth checking out. Personally after everything I've read and expierenced I would only by a Pioneer or Panasonic, or a Fujitsu if they weren't so expensive.

I returned my defective Vizio back to Costco, got the refund and bought the Pioneer PDP50A5HD which is actually the PDP5050HD model that Pioneer had last year. No matter the difference between the Pioneer and Vizio are like night and day. I had terrible handshake issues with the Vizio and none with the Pioneer. Overall quality shows and I guess it should for $$$ more. Very happy with the purchase and I like the fact that the speakers are detachable and it is about 50 pounds lighter than the Vizio.

EDIT>>

Mod note: no price talk, thanks.

Those of you who are looking at the 5050 at Costco should do yourselves a favor and check out one of the forum sponsers for a price on the 5060. It's the newer panel, better blacks, plus the media box. You may be pleasantly surprised at the price. I've got mine on its way from Beyond Plasma this week. I figured the extra cost was minimal overall, plus you get the latest version. Very much worth it, IMHO.

I was interested in buying the PDP-50A5HD. However, I don't see it listed as a model on the Pioneer website. Anyone have more information about this model?

Thanks

This month's Home Theater magazine tests the 5060 display, and finds it to be excellent with better blacks than the previous generation panels. Gave it a 90 overall.

Once out of the box it is actually the PDP-5050SX which was Pioneers last years model minus the media receiver which is built in but still being manufactured for Costco. Mine was built in Nov 2005. I'm still happy I bought this model and it works like a charm. No fan noise and I think better than average SD. The HD is awesome once you tweak it a bit. Pioneer sets it at Dynamic but it looks better in standard mode I feel. If you need the media receiver and the latest ACE IV display you'd be better off with the PDP-5060. I chose to go with Costco because of the return policy since I had to return the Vizio which blew up on me. I appreciate a store that treats you good!
