It is also interesting that the 42ED and 37HD are 4000:1 and the others at 3000:1... But, no cable card listed for 42ED and 37HD but have QAM tuners... Perhaps they left out cablecard by accident

I doubt it. The sub-pixel stuff and the sizes are the same as the 7UY commercial models. I may be wrong, but I bet the 720p under the model name means that it has at least 720 vertical pixels which meets the CEA guidelines for 720p. So the 42" HD will still likely be 1024x768 , the 50" HD 1366x768. However, the release specifically lists that the new PX/PD50U models will accept 720p input (as do the 7UY commercials), so that whole issue may finally be laid to rest - assuming someone in marketing did not mess up.
What we don't see in the press release is 1) whether they will be changing the overly bulky & heavy Viera cosmetic design for the new models, and 2) the big one - what will the MSRPs be? My guess is that we will see a $500 drop for the HD models, $300 to $500 for the 42" ED. Note also, the table does NOT list the 37" ED - which may be an oversight as I would think that could be a huge seller if the list price for it were to drop under $2K.
So the 500U models will include: PCMCIA slot & PC input, does this mean they support wireless networking capabilities? This would be a desirable feature for web cruising (AVS Forum) and HTPC applications.
The display I have has stated contrast of 4000:1. Why do some newer models show 3000:1. I believe this to be one of the more important specs. I do not believe the PQ will be much better on these newer models. Time will tell.

Hey, consider yourself lucky. I've been waiting for the new 42" ED consumer model as well, but so far I'm disappointed with what I've heard. No CableCard slot, new ugly (IMHO) stand, and a less attractive industrial design (again IMHO). Improvements in image processing and panel may not justify the loss of a CableCard slot for me. Time to start looking for a TH42PD25U. Unfortunately, given their availability, I don't expect prices to come down.

The PQ will be the same as 7UYs.
The contrast ratio has not changed. The HD models have always been 3000:1, and the ED models are 4000:1.

Are you basing the no cablecard slot based on the specs provided in the link in this tread? I would agree it does not make sense for them to take away a feature of the current model. Personally I can live without the cable card slot. I'll reserve my judgment on aesthetics until I see one in person.

I do not know the other MSRP's yet. But it looks like a nice drop in price.
Panasonic is calling the glass in these model 8th generation.

So if the "MSRP for 50PX500U is $5500" why would someone buy the ONYX TH-50XVS30 with an MSRP of $8,999.95? Other than ~$3500.00 what's the difference?
Dude, those prices are awesome and better than I expected, especially for the 50px500. Since, the 50px50 has less features, it'll probably be a couple hundred bucks cheaper?
8th generation huh? So I guess Panny is skipping the 7th generation for their Viera line. Wonder what's different... probably negligible.
It may be that only the PX500's are using the 8th generation glass, hence their later release date. This might be the first time Panasonic releases a new generation of plasma glass to the consumer side first.

Very nice price cuts, if correct, but the current MSRP for the for the 42PX25U is $5500, not $6000. Still a $1K drop for the 42" HD consumer Viera is a big drop in price. If they drop the 37" HD model by 20% as well from the current $4K MSRP AND make it widely available at the big B&M chains, they could probably sell a lot of them. What I don't get is where is the 37" ED in this? They have a 7UY model for it, is there an error on the press release or are they not updating the 37PD25U until later?

Could be, but I doubt it. First the difference in time between the PX50 and the PX500 is only a couple months. Also, the designation (just adding a zero at the end) leads me to believe that the PX500 is the basically the same as the PX50 except with the addition of a couple features. If it was a different glass, then they'd have named it PX600 or something.
Just MO.
